General Repair / Re: Awning Controller Box
Last post by rec@curry.org -
My control box in my 2008 45' Magna Rembrandt is behind the pantry cabinet (the cabinet immediately between the kitchen area and the toilet room. You must take out all the drawers and remove the rear panel. A bunch of other stuff back there as well. The controller failed on mine and I found it to be the 5v power supply that's on the PCB. Most likely one of the old electrolytic capacitors failed and took out the PS chip. Rather than troubleshoot which diode/capacitor/chip that failed I cut the traces to that section and wired in a tiny 5v switching PS and it's been working fine for 3 years. Was an easy fix once I found the problem.

Upgrades & Restorations / Re: Upgraded/Replaced the 12v air compressor
Last post by rdcyclist -
I saw the 120vac upgrade. That'll fill things up quick. I'd put a 2 gallon storage tank in there so you don't have to power up the compressor everytime you need to put air into the bags.
You said you used a 12vdc 90AMP compressor? That's a lot of juice. Do you have a link to it?
I bought a Vevor compressor to do the same thing but it's way too loud for permanent installation. I'd sure like to see what you used since my compressor is 27 years old...

General Repair / Winterizing 1997 affinity
Last post by Ted christoff -
We are new to the Country Coach family and purchased this 1997 Affinity that has been very well cared for.  We live in michigan and will not be able to do indoor storage this winter.

We have had travel trailers for years and I know how to add pink tv antifreeze to the water system except I do not see a bypass valve for the hot water heater.

How do we winterize the water system and should I winterize any other component .

Country Coach Talk / "Engine Maintenance" indicator light
Last post by journeyman -
"Engine Maintenance" indicator light... When it is lit, what does it mean?

Mine illuminates under prolonged heavy load, then goes off when I back off.
Water temp gauge and silverleaf both read 200˚ F

I was thinking temp, but maybe something else?

Input?

Thanks!

General Repair / Batteries do not charge with shore power but does with generator
Last post by Dustin Hostetler -
I’ve been troubleshooting this issue for a while now since we bought the Coach back in July of this year.

When we plug into shore power, no matter if 15, 30 or 50 amps, house batteries do not charge and strangely enough there are always 3 breakers in the house that do not have any voltage to them (front a/c, elec. aqua hot & inverter).  Fridge, microwave, outlets etc works.

When we run the generator everything works fine.  Charger from inverter does charge batteries.
Electric heat on Aqua Hot works.
Front air conditioner works

Since this problem has existed we have updated AGM batteries to LiFePo4 so batteries are not an issue and in the mean time we have an electric lithium battery charger that we use as a battery maintainer when we are plugged into shore.

The Xantrex inverter/charger works perfect when generator is running so that is not the problem.

The power wire coming into the inverter from the house main distribution panel does not show voltage when plugged into shore, which it shouldn’t due to the breaker not having power to it.

I have tried swapping the breakers with other ones and that did not work either, telling me it’s not a bad breaker issue.

We’re plugged into 30 amp right now and I have attached all voltage readings we have right now.  Voltage coming into surge guard from power cord indicates 120 volts on both hot legs, but one leg coming out of surge guard has no voltage.  This then goes to the transfer switch and I’ve found just one leg has voltage.

The generator power goes directly into the transfer switch, bypassing the surge guard so I am now leaning toward a bad surge guard.  However, Southwire, the maker of the surge guard has informed me that “the contactor inside the relay has all legs ganged together such that one leg can not be individually engaged.”  I have since sent them my voltage readings that I’ve attached here and am awaiting a reply.  So far they have been willing to help.

Thanks in advance for any help here!

Upgrades & Restorations / Upgraded/Replaced the 12v air compressor
Last post by Wes Owens -
Hey. A post on the CC facebook group inspired to finally do something about my tired (circa 2000) 12v air compressor, which would no longer reach sufficient pressure to air up the rear air bags.
A guy in FB did a bang-up nice job with a 120vac upgrade...
I went with a 12 cfm 12vdc 90amp tankless air compress I found on Amazon for $169.
I can now go from zero air bag pressure to all bags 100% full in about 4 minutes. No problem lifting the rear.
Minimal modifications, I added a 12vdc 10 amp relay onto the existing HWH relay trigger, and added a remote switch jack to the compressor (goes to the new relay), and connected the compressor with quick connects so I can actually still take out the compressor and use elsewhere, or air up my rig tires without running the engine.
Simple and a nice upgrade.
