I extracted the new LED bulbs. I rotated the new LED bulbs by 180 degrees. I re-inserted the bulbs in the socket. Hope this helps....

This is a continuation of a thread from October 2016 regarding dim lighting in the dash lights and tank level lights.

Short recap: I changed out my dash and tank monitor lights to proper colored LED light bulbs. Worked great except that a couple of the bulbs remained dimly lit when they should have been off. Not a big deal but not quite right.

I finally got back into seeking a fix for this and appear to have it accomplished. I added resistors to each of the affected lights. I am attaching some pics (if successful) to show the before/after shots and a pic showing the resistor used. These are all on the tank monitor panel. I also added resistors to a couple of the dash lights that continued to glow dimly when they should have been out. In all cases with the added resistor the lights when out but still functioned normally when lit. I included a pic of the monitor panel showing all the lights when fully lit (LP Gas level). My tank level lights were almost impossible to see in the daylight and appeared to be all the same color (white). After changing the bulbs out to LED I could see they were in fact different colors. I then changed out the LED bulbs to the correct color and this was the final result. These pics were taken in daylight (although in late afternoon) but are very visable even in bright sunlight.

If there is any bad information or advise here please don't hesitate to let me know - I'm okay with being wrong. I have no desire to lead anyone else down a wrong path. If my fix leads to other problems with time and use I will pass along my findings.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Hi Dan. Just read about the led relamping, we have a 2000 magna also and the dash lts are to dim to see at daytime, what size and what color range did you use, did you used a resistor or a diode to stop the backfeed. Where did you buy the leds. Thanks Charles 2000 magna 5886

Charles,

I got the LED bulbs online from Super Bright LEDs.com. Here's a link - 74 LED Bulb - 1 SMD LED - Miniature Wedge Retrofit | Subminiature | Specialty & Automotive | LED Light Bulbs - Universal Finder | Super Bright LEDs

Those pics I included the other day were taken late afternoon but they are equally visible in bright sun. It's an amazing difference. If you click on the "Show all xx messages in this topic" just below the message it will bring up all the previous posts (in the case from last October). I attached last weeks post to that older thread so the information would be easier to find. There is a lot of good information there.

I used 1K ohm resistors. I bought a couple of lesser ohm resistors just in case the 1K ohm dimmed the bulb but the output didn't seem to be dimming at all so I never ever tried the others. I added resistors to 3 of the lights in the dash and all the tank level lights on the monitor panel with the exception of the "Full" light which didn't appear to have the problem. I may go back and add a resistor to that bulb just because it's easy and to eliminate any possible future issue.

In one of those October posts Mikee talked about the possibility of a resistor somewhere in the system that might need replacing. I have no idea if there is or where it might be located but adding the individual resistors didn't take that much time or effort. I probably spent an hour doing both the dash and monitor panel lights.

In one of those October posts I referenced an older post of mine where I talked about the original light installation and the bulb colors. It was pretty comprehensive regarding what I went thru. The bottom line is that installing colored bulbs vs all white bulbs is worth the effort.

Hope this helps, Always available if you have additional questions.

Dan

Wow! What an improvement! Thanks for that inventory Don. As an experiment, I replaced the turn signal indicators, Jake Brake indicator, High Beam indicator and the 12'-1" clearance indicator with those LEDs and it makes a huge difference!

Charles - Check my post

My issue wasn't the "Check Engine" but a couple of other lights on the same panel that remained lit (not bright but still visible at night). Hope this helps in your situation. Let me know if you need further information.
