Take a look at the RJ (Phone cable) control cable connector on the Heart 2000. It is open to the elements and gets alot of dust and grime in it. I found it to be the primary culprit for a failure I once had. I sealed it with some putty (I call it dumb dumb)that I had used when working on old refrigerators years ago. It stays soft and is no conductive.
