Actual MPG by Country Coach Model & Year Reply #26 – November 26, 2007, 03:35:42 pm Yahoo Message Number: 35699I have a 2002 Magna 42 Resort. Pre-emissions CAT C-12. Weighs about 40k lbs loaded. Silverleaf says averaged 7.3 MPG over life (54k). It was 7.5 but I am the second owner and I have very heavy (8,000 lb) Ford Excursion diesel 4x4 toad so it has dropped a little bit. I do most of my driving in the mountains in the Rockies. On flatter terrain interstate doing 70 I get 8-10 MPG. Gets much better mileage at 65-70 than at 55 or lower. Interesting.Rich2002 Magna 6148 Quote Selected

Re: Actual MPG by Country Coach Model & Year Reply #28 – November 28, 2007, 09:44:02 am Yahoo Message Number: 35743Eric,What is the theory behind the use of 5W30 oil to increase fuel mileage, I know it helps lubricate the fuel and injection pumps but why the 20% increase in fuel mileage? What type of oil are you using (diesel or standard motor oil)?Paul Resnick98 Intrigue 10487 Quote Selected
Re: Actual MPG by Country Coach Model & Year Reply #29 – November 28, 2007, 11:28:40 am Yahoo Message Number: 35748Back when I was trucking with a Michigan train 160K lb gross , when I would fill up with fuel I would look in the garbage can for old 1 gal. old cans & rinse them out with #2 D & dump them in to the fuel tank,I noticed more power & fuel milage. But with that load the old 1693 Cat only averaged 4.25 MPG. The heaver the oil the more BTU's, Cat always said use the cheapest fuel you can get,#3 will work. Now EPA makes us run the ULS fuel with less BTU's , thus lower MPG> THANKS EPA.. '02 magna Bob #6028 Quote Selected
Re: Actual MPG by Country Coach Model & Year Reply #30 – November 28, 2007, 10:01:33 pm Yahoo Message Number: 35776Paul,Theory one is pure lubricant at less than $2 per quart is better than $10/ gallon for injection lubricant that is nearly straight diesel fuel plus a touch of lubricant.Theory two is Cat likes it 20% better. 2 quarts of gas engine oil added to each fill of diesel fuel was what I tried first, it worked, I have not further experimented. If 0W5 engine oil was easily available at low cost, I would use it. All those theories of need for expensive synthetic 2 stroke oil in fuel make no logic to me. I would not add modern ATF to fuel due to all the ATF additives not meant to be in an engine. The Caterpillar is quieter with oil in fuel.Maybe some of those that keep detailed records will experiment with different oils in different ratios. As is, I am satisfied to get 5.3 M/G on diesel or 6.3 M/G on diesel with 2 quarts of 5W30 added to each tank of fuel.Eric Lee Elliott05 Inspire Genoa 32K# + 7K# toad 04 Caterpillar C9 400*********************Eric,What is the theory behind the use of 5W30 oil to increase fuel mileage, I know it helps lubricate the fuel and injection pumps but why the 20% increase in fuel mileage? What type of oil are you using (diesel or standard motor oil)?Paul Resnick98 Intrigue 10487 Quote Selected
