Hi all and Happy Holidays,

Has anyone here used Davis cabinets in Oregon and if so, how long does it take? How about satellite systems on the roof, are there special places to install it?

Thanks, Cookie

Answer to your question depends on many things - time of year, if you have made an appointment or not, the weather, what else is going on in Junction City with them. We made an appointment three months in advance to have the rig measured on Monday, and Final Installation on Thursday and Friday. We got the entire starboard side done with the table moved out 11" and medium cherry cabinets with corian top in the back half and cherry wood top on the front half. Also had him custom build the computer cabinet (with the lift off top) and on the side the magazine and remotes holders. We were delighted with the service and the results, as has been everyone we have talked to that has had it done (four other coach owners).
The satallite system on the roof, we had the King Dome automatic one, installation took about 2 hours. There is a special place on the roof for the antenna and control wires to enter through the fibre glass top. I installed my own Ham Radio Antenna after seeing how easy it was to install the satallite tv antenna. The only hard part is hooking up the wires to the reciever and vcr. Again we have really enjoyed our automatic satallite tv antenna. We use Direct TV and have another antenna at home on the balcony of the townehouse and just take the receiver and remote off the rv and use it at home when we are there.

Ron,

Could you explain further the ham radio antenna you installed? What type and how and where it was installed? I am always looking for a better mouse trap....

I am currently using an ICOM 706MKIIG with a glass mounted 2m/440 Larsen antenna on lower corner of driver's side part of windshield and a Hign Sierra HS1500 screwdriver antenna for HF mounted up high on the rear ladder vertical rail. I have the radio and an AMCOM screwdriver antenna tuner mounted inside the 'dog house' in front of the passenger seat. The IC706MKIIG control head is remotely mounted on the upper right corner of the dash panel and a Clear Speech speaker on steering wheel column.

--- We ordered a cabinet that fits between the table and wall that doubles as a computer desk because of the use of clever slide out drawers (we have two couches), and a set of shelves and drawers in the opening (Intrigue) in front of the passengers seat. We ordered them while at the rally and went up over Thanksgiving to pick them up.

We do have one major issue with them and that is the QC on the finish. We had to have them respray the doors and drawers as they applied a glossy finish ane ours are matte. Additionally, some of the finish had blemishes that they re-sprayed twice.

We finally gave up and left as we were concened about weather. They promised us a new door to replace the one with the blemish, and they did not send it!

I mounted my high sierra directly above the driver seat on a motor driven home made riser. Ran the wires (coax, controler, 12v power sourse to motor) thru the box country coach installed behind the tv up in the roof. Hard to descrive and probably better to "picture " it so am attaching a .jpg file. regards

Interesting setup. What kind of actuator/motor is that used for raising the antenna? I see you have it positioned near the CB antenna. I understand there is a metal plate in that area for a ground plain. Did notice that on your rig?

Looks like you also wait until you get set up in a campground befor you raise your antenna. I leave the whip off mine and install it after I am parked and setup. Otherwise, I only have the 2M antenna hooked while mobiling down the road.
I have uploaded some photos of my installation in the photos section.

motor is a 12v hydrolic piston that when actuated raises the antenna to the vericle. Yes I did find a sheet metal plate between the fibreglass and the insullation around the hold of the place where all the antenna wires are designed to go through the top.

Can anyone give me the telephone number AND a person to contact there? After seeing one of these mods while on vacation, I'd like to have my Allure dash modified with one of his cabinet setups.
Post here or email me direct at "kb8oxo@...".

Much appreciated!

I don't know where the original one was made, but after seeing the one on the post, I made the basic cabinet out of 3/4" oak plywood, then took one of my cabinet doors off for a pattern and had a local cabinet shop match the doors for me. Looks good! Larry

I got a bid from Davis Cabinets for change out of my front of coach cabinets, including removing the headbanger and replacing with flat screen. I've seen Davis' work and know it to be excellent. However, I always like two or three bids. Can anyone recommend other cabinet designers in Washington or Oregon?

Thanks, Jim Gregory

Jim, we have had a lot of work done by Davis and are happy with his work, however. We were turned on to a new guy by another guy on the board here to another craftsman that does the same quality, if not better work. We spent some time talking to him and feel comfortable enough to have him do our "head knocker removal".

His name is Scott Adams, 26420 Coon Rd.,Monroe, Or. Monroe is right outside JC. His Phone# 541.556.0501. I suggest you call him first and go visit before you drive your coach out as his driveway takes a little pre planning.

His bid was less than half of the Davis bid for our coach.

I really like the work Davis cabinets have done for us, but they are expensive. And the last couple of times we've worked with them we've noticed a bit of "attitude" we didn't use to see. I actually mentioned it to Shawn but have no idea if we can expect any changes.
For me, I'm glad to have another person to contact. And I plan to do that soon.

It is interesting you say that. We have had a LOT of work done at Davis Cabinets, and were always very pleased with the work, even if it was a bit expensive. However, our last job we had done there was an unpleasant experience. Things were done wrong, it was VERY expensive, we had to have them re-do a wine glass cabinet, and dealing with Shawn's father (Shawn was on a vacation) was an "attitude" session. I called numerous times, Shawn NEVER returned a single call (his receptionist would call back). It took MONTHS to get the situation resolved. I won't go there again.

We had Infinity Coach in Sumner WA work on our 06 Inspire. They did some custom cabinetry and electrical work. There work is beautiful.
They can do basically anything you need. They do custom conversions on bus platforms that look like a million dollars.
I can highly recommend them.

Speaking of attitude by Davis Cabinents, I order a table, and cabinent insert. I got the cabinent insert as he used it at a show. I never got the table, good work maybe, attitude you bet.

Thank you,

We have had Davis Cabinets do a great deal of work for us in the last two years. Here's the list:
1. New front cabinets with 37" Sharp Aquos HD TV (Electronics all done by John Soden of Custom Coach Electronics. We also updated to Trac Star in-motion sattelite, 20" Sharp Aquos flat screen in bedroom, completely new surround-sound system, two Direct TV sattelite receivers, Trip Tech, and Kenwood GPS system.)
2. Computer table, credenza with haning files, dining room cabinet with extendable table--all with Corian tops.

3. Wood window valances with Corian sills.

4. Raised-panel wood headboard to replace fabric.

5. Extended drawers in galley to full length of base cabinet.

6. Replaced pantry "wire baskets" with full-width sliding shelves.

7. Upper-cabinet "skins" to create "fake" bottoms for new halogen lighting.

8. Various small items including wine rack, paper towel holder,
hand-vac stand, and new heavy-duty, full-extension drawer glides on every drawer in the coach.

We believe the quality of the work is exceptional!! Everything looks as though part of the "original," only better. Shaun was great to work with.

Prices are reasonable for such quality. When is high quality ever cheap?! None of us are Country Coach owners based on price!

Does anyone have current information on Davis Cabinets? In 2004 we ordered a computer desk while in OR and it was delivered at the Indio rally in January 2005. In 2006 while at the Indio rally we ordered a small cabinet for the bathroom hallway with the understanding that Davis would ship it to us while we were in Utah from May to November of 2007, and that we would call them and give them a shipping address in May. We have called, e-mailed and sent letters and the only response we have is that there must be a misunderstanding. Most of our attempts to contact them have been unanswered. We don't know what to think.
Are they still in business?

I sent an e-mail recently through their website, but it has not been answered. I figured that they were busy with the Class Reunion.
The website was down for a couple of days, then came back up all different.
So, from that, I would assume that they are still in business..

I was in their office three weeks ago and took pictures for an article on Junction City. I also saw the receptionist at the Good Sam rally in Redmond two weeks ago. They are probably all getting ready for the FMCA rally - during rally season it's probably hard to reach them, but yes, they are still in business. I spoke with their receptionist on the last day of the rally. Sounded to me like all was well, Give 'em another call early in the morning when things might be a little quieter.
