Tire presure monitor

Thinking about having tire sentry presure monitoring system installed.

Yes. Seems to work okay.

My complaints: 1) Didn't get any information on the system when I bought my (used) coach. Fortunately Les Schwab in JC had programming instructions and a glossy spec sheet. 2) My readout (LCD) monitor, located on the dash to the left and below the steering wheel, is hard to read while driving. I also need to put on reading glasses. 3) Readings aren't available until you've driven a couple minutes. So you may still want to manually check pressures if you're about to leave a place that has a good air source - that way you won't be miles away before you detect a low pressure condition.

I'm getting warnings nearly every time I drive, but assume thats because I haven't set the threshholds high enough - need to get the programming instructions out again and see what to change.

I didn't see a brand name on the monitor system that you are thinking about but if it's the SMARTTIRE that is available as an option through CC then here's my take:

Good option! When mine was first delivered on my new coach the settings were off the wall. CC apparently doesn't try to set it at all. This may be because they don't know what weight (and therefore tire pressure) will be required after you take delivery and load your coach. I was VERY unhappy with the system because I wasn't told this during my 'walk through'.
But thanks to guidance from a good friend of the CC Owners Group, Damon Rapozo, I got assistance and education from Les Schwab on settings, how to use and adjusted my tire pressure. Now I have great confidence in the readings that I get from the system. I still check the tires once in a while to be sure everything is working. And based on readings from the display I have had to adjust the pressure in one tire.

As with many things..... knowledge is power!
I don't mean to contradict Tom in his reply to your post but I rely on the SmartTire even though it doesn't register until... I think... a certain MPH is reached. However, it's not that long that heat builds up to distort the readings... I hope!

re maymr@.... How can I get ahold of Damon or the Les Schwabe people in JC by phone??? Had same problem with my smart tire and received instructions in how to reset it and the unit now will not let me enter into the reset mode. Wanted to contact them to see if I could send the unit to them, have them reset it for me and then return it. thanks ron

There is enough length on the antenna and power cables on the smart tire on my rig that i moved it to the upper right side (empty side) of the dash. One screw removal on each side of the dash cover allows the cover to be removed and then easy to see where to cut an access hole for the two wires. used velcro to keep the unit attached to the dash. I now have no problems of looking around the steering wheel to see what it read.

Thanks for passing this on. I have wondered if my Smart Tire was properly calibrated and such. I will check to see if I can e-mail them, if not, when I get back to the states I will call and get this information. I am still concerned about the difficulty in checking the tire pressure and adding air when needed.

Does anybody use the air pressure equalizer for the dual wheels? Is this recommended/not recommended??

yes I had bad experiences w/ tire equalizers. mine were the Crossfire brand. they make adding and checking inside rears easier but when you develop a leak they will let both tires lose air. also they have a tendency to work loose and cause leaks themselves. I sent mine back for repairs and was never satisfied w/results.
If you still want a set i will sell you mine for $50.00, but i don't recommend them.
