Hurricane hot water-heating system

I have a 2oo3 Allure & my Hurricane has been flaming out. Now it won't fire up, just billows smoke. I replaced the ignitor to no avail. Any one had this problem? We are in the Palm Springs-Indio area and efforts to find a tech have been unsuccessful so far. Appreciate any help. Thanks Gary

First thing to due is change the fuel filter, then remove the "fuel block" and unscrew carefully the "fuel nozzle", clean the fuel nozzle with "brake or choke cleaner". You should be good to go.

Another hint from a guy that just did this - fill the fuel filter with fuel before installing. Just that much less air to digest through the system after startup. If you have the air separator with the return line plumbed back into the fuel tank (rather than just emptying onto the ground), you can leave it cracked about a half turn to intercept any bubbles.

Good design, and works very well.

I had the same type problem last summer. I was in Portland OR area just across the river from ITR. I called ITR and with the teck's help narrowed down to the regulator. Took regulator out and drove across the river to ITR's shop and the tech tested. Regulator was no good. Replaced and have not had any problem this fall with the heater since. Give ITR a call and they can help you.

All advice given is good, however, if you can open the cover on the side and look at your fuel pump (pretty obvious) if is a cylindrical shape, that is your problem and ITR will sell you an updated rectangular pump. Since I replaced that over two years ago, flawless. Nozzle should be cleaned about every year.

There is a good trouble shooting guide on ITR's web site. My symptoms were the same as yours and the problem was an obstruction (dirt) in the atomizer.

The solution for my Hurricane flaming out was cleaning the nozzle with brake cleaner and replacing the nozzle O ring. ITR tech told me that air can leak past an aged O ring, which can cause a flame out too.

If it's blowing smoke it must be burning somewhere. I had a photo eye go out and let it flame out and it kept spraying fuel in the burner letting the muffler fill up with diesel. I put a new eye on it and fired it up and it took about 2 hrs to quite smoking.

I have had Mike Flowerday service my 2007 Hydrohot for two years in a row. Very pleased with his service. He services Hydrohot, Aquahot, Hurricane. Lives in Oregon, but stays at Outdoor Resorts Palm Springs in Cathedral City during the winter. He must service 3 to 6 units a day! Unfortunately, I do not have his telephone number available. Check with the resort. I usually have him service my unit at the beginning of April. He leaves the desert around mid April. He comes to your site. Usually several of us at Desert Shadows RV Resort book him for the same day, and we all get discounts.
Just checked my PDF copies of my receipts. "Mike Flowerday's Mobile RV Repair, 541-410-5555". His home base is LaPine OR.
Googling his phone number shows that he is also HWH certified, and is also listed in the FMCA Business Directory.
