Leaks and Sweat

I posted a bit ago regarding a bedroom slide leak...we paid someone to fix...and its STILL there!!!! So we are still trying to locate it. We now have another problem we have never encountered. Sweat.....we are in Southern Texas and its been COLD...... when the slides are out all the corners and in the cabinets of the outside walls sweat like crazy...you would think someone threw water there....pull in the slide in front during the nite....no sweat......we are drowning in our bedroom...lol really NOT funny though...... anyone else have these sweat problems? We have been rv'ing for years.. never had this problem b/4 or if we did it was so minute we didn't notice......of course we have never "camped" in cold weather like this either!!!!!

We had the same problem until another guy told me to get a Dehumidifer, we bought one and no more sweat, we are located in a rainy area now and it work really well

You have too much moisture in the air in the RV. The air that is close to the window frames etc. and colder walls see a local drop in temperature that drops it below its dew point. The moisture in the air will condense out onto the colder surfaces. The tendency for this to happen is related to how much moisture is in the air and how cold it is outside.
There are things that you can do to help but probably not totally solve the problem. In the interest of fuel efficiency and comfort you are probably are keeping the coach too tight. In this condition things like showering and cooking and washing evaporates a lot of moisture into the inside air and the humidity and with very little dryer outside air coming in the situation just keeps building.
When you are engaged in activities that result in a lot of evaporation you need to open a vent like the fantastic ceiling vent on low fan and crack a window or two. Usually you can do this without dropping the inside temperature below the heaters ability to keep pace. Also cooking in and of itself add quite a lot of heat. The worst is thing is boiling a large pot of spaghetti. Think baked and broiled and microwave instead of boiling when possible. Also provide some venting when taking a shower.
The outside air will have a dew point no higher than its temperature. Once inside the coach and heated to comfort levels, the relative humidity will drop as the dry air mixes with the more humid air helping the problem a lot. You also can use some passive drying such as Damp Rid or buy a de-humidifier. Both of these may not be enough in such an enclosed space but using any or all three methods will help a lot.
We are in southeastern AL for the winter and two nights ago was the first time I have seen frost on my windows since I left the winters of NH 10 years ago. Yesterday it barely made it above freezing mid day. There is actually frost in the ground. When it doesn't melt in the day then it gets driven deeper with each cold night. I wonder what will be breaking everywhere when it warms up next week, hopefully. Where is Global Warming?
I had a persistent leak in my bedroom slide for well over a year. After several attempts by various shops it was finally eliminated when a savvy tech who simply laid down a bead of clear silicone on every joint on the slide. So we don't know where the leak was but we got it stopped. Best of luck with that one. It can be very frustrating.

Hi Don S,

We are experiencing the same problem here at Red Bluff. Very humid outside with highs in the middle 50's and low's about 40 each night with fog every morning. With sweating, also comes mold if one is not careful.

Hi Chuck,

You got that right. I am in constant battle with black mold. Well at least when you bring in 40 degree air and heat it up to room temp it will be less humid than it was at 40.
