Fuel leak, 2004 Allure, Cummins ISL

Yahoo Message Number: 55821
I have a small amount of fuel dripping on the ground between the front wheels. I think it is caused by pressure in the fuel tank. If I leave the fuel cap loose, the leak stops.
If the fuel cap is on tight, there is a lot of pressure release when I open the fuel cap.
I only have a quarter tank of fuel so it's not an over fill problem.

Any ideas?

Bruce, your tank is 3/4 full of air. You may be experiencing significant air temperature swings. As the air is heating up pressure builds and pushes fuel out. Seems like a fuel tank shold have a pressure release, which could be clogged.

Bruce,
Many CCs, including, y '04 Inspire, developed leaks in the fuel lines to the generator. You might want to check there first.

Hope access on your Allure has easier acccess than my Inspire.

I had to not only have the lines replaced to the generator, but eventually to the hydro-hot. Air would get in the lines causing white puffs of smoke and intermittent operation of the heating system. Fortunatly I was able to work with Bob Snooks and helped with the process of repair cutting the time down to 2 hours. Normally it takes a tech by himself much longer and much more $$$$$$$$. That was the short story. It took 4 techs, and five attempts before Chris Snyder and Bob finally figured out the situation on their first try.

There should no pressure or vacuum in the fuel tank. Check your tank vent line, it may be obstructed. Ours was at the top where it was joined to the tank fitting with a short piece of hose.

Hi Bruce

I had the same fuel leak problem and like George related it was the fuel lines to the Generator, If your Allure has the LP tank behind the drivers front wheel you can see the condition of lines by looking over the top of the LP tank,I have already changed these lines, they were cracked and leaking and also lead to the Generator not starting,

Jim, I have an 07 Allure and I have pressure or vacuum when I remove my fuel cap., I always wondered if this was normal, what you are saying is that there should be no suction on the cap when removed? Marvin 07 Allure 31459

That's correct. Check on the drivers side just aft of the fill port on the under side of the coach and you'll see a small metal vent tube, it may be cloged with undercoat. Run a wire up the tube to clear the lower end.
I that doesn't solve the problem open the access panel on the bay wall and check the top end and the connection to the tank.
Ours had a flap of metal where they had cut the tube that was causing the blockage.

I have the pressure/vacume(?)release too when I remove my gas cap. Thought it was normal because I had the same thing on a previous MH and all my cars.

You make a very good point. Two and a half years ago my 04 Intrigue's generator wouldn't run. The problem was a fuel line that was full of cracks. The Onan dealer told me that that was a fairly common problem for coaches produced in that time period.
