Coolant Capacity Question

Yahoo Message Number: 56158
Friends,

What would be the total coolant capacity in gallons (engine/radiator/dash heater), for an 03' Allure 40' Cummins 370 figuring the gallon as 50/50 premix?

Thanks, Mike 03 Allure 1st Ave #30898

I am curious as to the coolant capacity of my rig, 2000 40 foot Intrigue with Hurricane heater. In a table in Chapter 7 in the CC manual states "complete cooling system" is 12.5 gallons. Just wondering if anyone has drained their coolant and gotten 12.5 gallons of coolant or does that include all hoses and heater lines? Trying to determine how much antifreeze I need to purchase prior to starting the drain process.

Thanks
Ray

I changed over to Final Charge. My notes show I drained out 14 gallons of coolant from the radiator. You have to remember that coolant in the hydro-hot and OTR heat loop do not drain out. My notes further show my entire cooling system capacity to be 26 gallons. Someone at CC told me the capacity was 12 gallons, but that was not right. Someone else told me 26 gallons. Therefore, I filled and flushed the system several times with tap water followed by a final rinse with distilled water. I feel like all those rinses got me pretty close to all water in the cooling system, and mostly distilled water at that. I then added 12 gallons of Final Charge and two gallons of distilled water. I checked the mixture with a refractometer and learned I was a little short of 50% solution. There was room in the expansion tank for one more gallon of final charge. I was lucky as a re-check with the refractometer showed exactly 50% solution.
I was pleased to find that the HH and OTR loops will circulate at engine idle speed and actually get hot pretty fast. The thermostats must be partly open when cold.

Ray, I recently changed over to Final Charge. I pulled thermostat, engine coolant plug and petcock on radiator, raised front end slightly and turned on dash heater switch. I let it drain for about 2 hours.

I got 12 1/2 gallons back in.
