Has anyone heard of the product and used it or installed it on your CC. Sounds kind of convenient.

Steve,
I've had one on my last two coaches including my present '04 Inspire. It is a great product.
However, I have since been told that our existing exhaust brake can do the same thing.

If you do a search on brake switch, you should find the details.

Thanks George. I found the topic and Handren's and others responses. I have some experimenting to do to get it straight in my head and on the road and will give it a try. Sorry to hear about your cancelled keys trip. I am sure there are many out there that would have gladly taken your place. Hope your health is improving and the snow is melting. Here in Iowa we have 70+ inches to melt.

Regards,

Steve

Hi George,

I guess that I don't get it. When I had an exhaust brake in a 2002 Allure with the exhaust brake switch in the on position, the exhaust brake would close when I tool my foot of the throttle and open when I put it back on the throttle. This device seems to introduce the extra step of touching your brake pedal after you take your foot off the throttle to close the exhaust valve. I am missing something as I don't see what it has automated.

Don,
With the Brake Switch, the exhaust brake does not kick in when you take your foot off the throttle, only when you step on the brake, that's the beauty of it. As soon as you step on the throttle again, it disengages the exhaust brake.

Good morning everyone,

We just spent eight days in Las Vegas and here are a few comments.

1. Chose Las Vegas Motor Coach Resort for our base. We have stayed before, but that was back in 2001 when the resort was new. Back then it was out by itself in the desert, but now it is surrounded by development, houses and shopping centers. This is not a bad thing, as almost anything you need is very close by, many major bank branches, Verizon store, Albertson's, etc. No need to drive far for a bottle of milk.
We chose the cheapest rental package (see their web site) and were well satisfied. The foliage on site has grown a lot since 2001 making all sites quite attractive. Staff very friendly and helpful, and the laundry and shower facilities were great.
Very little was 'off limits' to renters.
We really liked the feeling of security within the resort.
2 Casinos. We are not gamblers. We go to LV to look and eat! Apparently room rates are down a lot, but it appears the loss is being made up on the cost of food, shows and drinks. Apart from a couple of buffet meals and one restaurant we did not eat in the casinos. The buffet in Paris was not as good as before. Good, but they have cut the menu and the service was a little weak. Our visit to the Nine Irishman in New York, New York was also a bit disappointing. Maybe because we had to pay an 'entertainment tax' on top of the regular food tax because some third rate singer was making noise on the floor below! The one buffet that impressed us this trip was at the casino on the south end of Las Vegas Blvd. 'M' opend about a year ago. We went to the Sunday sea food buffet and were very impressed with the variety and quality of everything on display. Sampled as much as I could! Price on sunday is high but it does include wine if you wish.

3. Spent some time in the Aria casino, part of the recently opened City Center. Decor and layout Interesting but not to our taste at all. Maybe we are too old to understand what younger people want, but to us Paris, Caeser's (sp), NY, NY and others offer much more. If you do go to Aria take a lot of bread crumbs and leave trail back to your car!
4. Departing LV Friday morning we discovered half the local police force deployed on highway 15 just north of the weigh station. Motor cycles all over the place, stopping people as they were coming into LV. Like shooting fish in a barrel!
5. The new bridge near the dam is not open yet. Supposedly the target is September 2010. We will have to return again, it should be a spectacular drive from Nevad to Arizona across that bridge.

Travel safe.

For what it is worth..........

We have Cummins 400 ISL pushing 43 foot Allure towing #4400 TOAD. Run western states with fair number of grades.

I drive at approx. 58 and use cruise control much of the time.
Every tank of diesel has been recorded and I made an assumption that the tank included 100 gallons when delivered new. We do not operate the diesel heating or generator a great deal. At 15000 miles our fuel consumption through the life of the vehicle averages 7.16 mpg. This is therefore a worse case scenario. MPG when measured by Silverleaf on long trips has shown 7.9 mpg. I think the real world is probably somewhere between the two figures.

Driving at 58 mph and using cruise control makes a huge difference.

I can see this being an easy DIY with a Bosch relay and some coach wiring identification for a PAC Brake application. I wonder if it is designed to work with Jake Brake 2 stage units as well. They seem to avoid the difference on their website, unless I just didn't see it.

Hello all...new to the group. I've read the owner's manual for the exhaust brake on my '08 Intrigue, and depending on the position of the cruise control (on or off, but not needing to be actively cruising), and it seems it performs the same function as this Brakeswitch product. I don't know if this feature is on other earlier model CC's. Look up auxillary brake in the Engine group section of your manual.

Ed:

This is exactly the way our '05 Inspire works and as best I can recall so did our 2000 Intrigue.
With the exhaust brake on and the cruise control completely off (not just cruise function not set to a speed or engaged) the exhaust brake engage every time you release the throttle pedal and will disengage/turn off when you re-apply the throttle.
With the exhaust brake on and the cruise on (whether engaged and set at a cruise speed or not) the exhaust brake will not engage when you take you foot off the throttle. It can be engaged in any one of three ways, apply the brakes, press and hold the "cancel" button on the Smart Wheel or turn the cruise control off which puts you back in the first condition described.
It sounds more complicated than it is, just turn on the cruise control and try it.
Adding the Brakeswitch product would not add anything to my coach, yours may be different but you need to test it to know.

With the cruise on and set and the exhaust brake switch on, the exhaust brake will come on going down a hill if the coach exceeds some margin of over speed. I have never paid much attention at what point that is. It goes off when the coach slows to close to the set speed.

Dave,

Ours works the same way - I think it is 15mph over cruise setting so it seldom happens, can't remember the last time so I had actually forgotten about it.
On the Cat engine it is adjustable. I have a product they have since discontinued, and I haven't used it in years, called the Pocket Tek which uses a Palm Pilot for the interface. It is similar to the Silverleaf products in that it lets you see, read and change some of the settings in the ECM - but no where as easy to use or as useful. One accessible setting is the speed over cruise that the exhaust brake kicks in. I had it set at 5mph for a short time - came on way too often. It is now set on whatever the default is which I think is 15 mph over the cruise setting.
