Engine Temperature

We are in the process of purchasing a 2006 CC Affinity with a 525 CAT. When test driving the coach, the engine/oil temperature was 221 degrees. We have been used to our 2004 CC Intrigue with a 505 CAT that ran at 201 degrees.
I checked with the authorized CAT repair center this morning, and they told me this coach should be running between 210-215 degrees. Are there any 2006 CC Magna or Affinity owners who can verify the running oil/engine temp? The CAT repair center told me they would be very leery of purchasing this unit which ran at 221 degrees. Thanks.

Just drove down from Ore to So Ca this weekend. i have a 05 Magna w/the C-13 525 and according to the Silverleaf the coolant temp ran between 195-205 and at 205 the fan kicked in to high speed and the temp immediately dropped to 195/197.

Are you sure the coach was actually 221 degrees? Does the coach have a Silver Leaf? Did the temps remain constant or did they fluctuate?

My ol' Magna has always run at about 195 degrees, but on one occasion, the temperature got up to 225...
I took it to the Cat place in Brooksville, Fl, and they hooked up their computer, ran it for an hour at 1200 RPM (max torque for my C10),and the temp never got higher than 192 degrees... They verified the compputer reading by taking a temp reading of the thermostat housing with an infrared thermometer...
Turned out to be the water temperature sender that sends the temp to the dash guage...
So... the temp "problem" may just be the guage or the water temp sender...

The Silver Leaf showed a constant 221. I just got a report from the CAT repair facility which showed no engine faults for high temp.

You gave me the coolant temps, which fluctuate with the thermostat opening. I was more interested in the engine/oil temp.

I find it interesting that the temp never varied. I have not ever watched my oil temp close enough to know if that is normal. Next time I hit the road I will have to log it to see.

( lets say it is 100 deg in the summer desert ) The oil ( engine oil Temp ) will have a temperature difference with the engine water jacket cooling system ( I E water temp ) and the oil temp. Essentially , it is the water /glycol that cools the block which also cools the oil. ( P S I know that there is an oil cooler as well ) The Silverleaf on my coach had a limit set at 225 for the oil temp , which I feel is too close a temp difference between water-glycol and oil temp. I called Martin at Silverleaf and he says that this is an adjustable alarm setting on the Silverleaf . I moved my alarm setting to 240 on the " Oil Temp " . This is a 20 Deg difference between oil temp and water/glycol temp , and this seems reasonable to me, since the oil is in contact with the cylinder walls and the combustion process. If someone disagrees with this analysis , go for it.
