Service recommendations

Dear friends, Gail and I are currently working our way northeast from southern Florida and on up to the Maritimes by this summer.
The "Big Girl", our 2000 Magna #5818 is in need of some TLC.
Most aggravating is the leak we are experiencing at the forward end of the drivers side galley slide.

What makes it even more frustrating is the inability of any of the 2 previous RV repair shops to fix the problem.

My question for the group is, Is there an RV mechanic/technician/shop that folks would recommend somewhere on the eastern seaboard? Gail and I have been on the road for 4 years now and the most difficult part of our fabulous adventure is trying to find competent service people to help us maintain our home on wheels.
Thank you in advance
Bob

I could be mistaken, but that leak is a "feature". I believe most of the 2000 coaches have the same problem. We also have a 2000 Magna with the leak.
We have friends with circa 2000 coaches (Magna's and Affinities) who have repaired the leak themselves. The leak is at the outer seam of the slideout. Country Coach never applied a primer to the metal at the seam between the side wall and outside wall of the slideout. Instead, they merely applied caulking compound. They used good compound (Silkaflex 221), but it does not prevent rust from forming.
If you look carefully at the seam you will see some black material (i.e. the Silkaflex) at the joint....but if you look closer, you will see some bubbling. That bubling is rust. It extends all around the seam. The part of the seam at the top of the slideout is most prone towards admitting water to the slideout which will show up in 2 or 2 places: Rear bottom part of slide out (in kitchen area), Front bottom part of slide out (just behind driver's seat), and/or inside the storage cabinets at the top of the slideout. Mold will grow if the condition is not treated.
We are about to perform the solution that our friends have found to be successful: I.e. 1. On a sunny day, extend the slideout. 2. Remove the awning (being careful to gently unwind the zip-dee spring so the awning arms do not flop against the coach). 3. Using a screwdriver, or putty knife, extract all the Silkaflex that can reasonably be removed. 4. Using a wire brush, remove the remainder and the rust down to bare metal. 5. Paint the metal with POR-15 (a rust converter and primer that will prevent recurrance of the problem). 6. Install fresh Silkafex 221. (Siklaflex is available from some marine supply houses since it is an extremely high quality caulking compound that is often used on boats.....to Country Coach's credit, they did use high quality material: They just didn't install it correctly over a good primer.)

Hope this fix works....(for us too.)

Thanks

Bob,

I had a leak in the same area of the coach repaired by Creative Coach in Lakeland, Florida. You can search for them on the internet and get contact info. I found the folks at Creative Coach to be professional and competent and HONEST which is something you don't always find when you drive into an RV service center.

Good luck.

Not sure where you are but you probably have the same slide as I do. Made by HWH. Their service center list is at:

I must assume it is leaking while driving.

Mine hasn't started leaking there yet.
