Tire Size?

I'm looking ahead to changing tires on my coach. The current tires are 11R dated 1999. My coach is a '98 Intrigue. Looking at tire pressure charts it appears I can run less tire pressure on 12Rs than I can on 11Rs. Lower tire pressures should equate to a smoother ride.
I believe CC changed to the 12Rs on the 2000 models. My questions are has anyone made this change on a pre2000 model? Is the clearance sufficient to avoid rubbing? Can the change be made on rear duals without changing rims? Will this change improve the ride? Any other points I missed?

Any imput is appreciated

Hi Steve,

Country Coach did change the chassis rail size in mid 2000. They went from a 3" by 3" rail to a 3" by 6" rail. This gave CC the room to run the 12R tires. The largest tire I have seen on a early 2000 model and older has been a 295/80R/22.5 which I believe is pretty close to an 11R. The rims are also wider with the 12R tires found on the newer coachs.

This is news that even Country Coach has not released yet!
That's right 2004. Country Coach said they were going to completely re-haul their conversion, and they were not kidding!!

Some major changes are:
1. No roof top airs! Everything is now in the basement, and they haven't lost any storage. Plus, the "bus air"? from Prevost, which is a heavy and cumbersome unit and drains horsepower from the engine, and the lighter version by CC that never really did the job, is gone. Country Coach is now using an 8.5kw belt driven electric generator (from the motor) system, this has worked in the boating industry for years, giving the owner additional power necessaryfor running one AC basement unit without the requirement of the main 17.5kw generator running in travel.

2. All new wiring. Yes, the "Mother Board"? is gone! This system has always been a problem with the techs to repair. Now CC changed to a "state of the art"? Crestron system. This electrical system has automation with single touch screen remote controls audio/video, heat, cool and lighting throughout the bus. Wow, what a difference and very easy to figure out and use too.

3. The CC computer dash is gone! Need I say more?
4. The Plasma TV is gone! The heavy weight that these TV's have and the gears requiring the movement have been a big problem. Now CC is using a very high definition 60"? roll down projection screen. The clarity is amazing.

5. The Hurrican heater is GONE! Haven't we heard enough problems with that?

I'm not even going to get into the "fit and finish"? of this coach, the best I have ever seen from anyone.
I have gone thru a very short list of all the changes. But it has happened! Country Coach built an awesome product, worthy of competing with anything on the market, and WINING!
The official debut of this coach will be in Las Vegas, NV, for the CCI Winter FMCA pre-rally March 14-18th then on to the FMCA winter rally in Pomona, CA., March 21-23rd, where we will have two to show you.

Hey, Lee, don't even THINK about going to the low profile tires. In order to keep them from blowing out you have to inflate them to where the coach rides like a farm wagon. I've had the low profile on a 2000 Intrigue and now have the 12's on an 03 Allure. The tremendous improvement in ride quality more than makes up for the inconvenience of a high entrance step.

I have to jump in on this one, two weeks ago Brian Thompson showed Louie and I one of these bad boys and watched us druel, its a whole new coach with a whole new attitude. That projection TV is really nice, very compact and very clear. The interior (& exterior) detail was awesome and tastefully done, the cabinets had a seamless laminant look that I have never seen before, basement storage was cavernous, they pointed out this new wire harness (which flew over my head), and I did see a "Webasto" heater sittin out back. The awnings were automatic Zip Dees recessed in very clean, its a whole new coach, and Brian and his crew look pretty focused, dailed in, and will definately kick some but this year.

Lee,

You and Steve need to trade Intrigues ;-). Like Walt said, you really dont want to go that route. Your rims are to wide for low profile tires, your GVWR will go down, your ride will be hard, and you will loose some ground clearance. The 12R tires is one of the big selling features of a Country Coach, no other manufacturer spends that kind of money for tires. Do you dump all your air before leveling to get your entry step a bit closer to the ground?

My Allure has a mfg date of Jan 2000 and it came with the larger rails as well as the 12R22.5 Toyo tires.
