Step Cover

The access for your step drive should be in your front left compartment. It is on the top of the compartment looking towards the passenger's side. If I remember correctly, the motor is attached to the worm drive via set screws. You could have something as simple as these screws loosening, or the drive has come off the step. If you could have someone move the stepcover switch in both directions, you should be able to see if the worm drive is actually moving via the compartment.

Thanks Fred. All I see is a small horizontal black cylinder up there, maybe 3" in diameter by 5" long, no exposed drive or set screws. Looks like it is in the right place, does this sound like the drive motor?

Does your manual have any information on this setup? Mine does not.

If I pull my stair well cover out, it will retract, but will not extend. Any thoughts? The stair well cover has been a problem from day of delivery with intermittent failure to extend, but has now failed completely.

I just found this old post. I had the same problem, it was fixed at the Class Reunion last year. The "actuator" was out. The tech that fixed it said that they are a continuing problem. He hinted at the fact that if it was his he would not bother fixing it. But, I wanted it fixed. Seems like it was something like $548 for the part--no charge for labor.

Thanks for your response. The thing that bugs me is the fact the slide has not worked properly from the time we took factory delivery, but CC could never find any problem. I may opt for the manual version rather than spend $5-600.

I just bought a 99 Intrigue and the stair cover would not move. I took it Beaudry in San Marcos. They found it had been miss wired and that the pinion gear on the drive was loose. I tried to get Beaudry to cover this under a warranty, but we have had no response. We traded our Dutch Star for the Intrigue and are very happy with it.
