Problems with CC Motorhomes

Like a percentage of you, I was overwhelmed by the number and persistence of the problems that plagued my 2000 Intrigue. Somewhere in the archives of this site is an e-mail that I wrote enumerating all of the issues that I dealt with and hove very many of them recurred. I have to thank Damon for giving me some very sound advice and SAVING ME SOME BIG BUCKS. He disuaded my from looking at a high end Monaco and suggested that I continue to work with CC to reach closure.

I did make one hugh breakthrough in this process when I came to understand that (as Damon wrote recently), CC really only makes the platform and bolts on many different systems provided by vendors. At that point, I abandoned working with CC on suppier provide hardware and call them directly, intorducing myself as a CC customer.
Eventually, I worked through all of my issues related to items covered under warranty.

It is amazing how much I learned about how to manuever through the corporate structures. I will admit that Cummins was the most troublesome. I had big time blow-by problems when I used my pac brake, the back of my coach and tow car were covered with engine oil.
Without recounting all of the misery that we went through (and getting depressed), I will say that it took probaly 10 visits to Cummins to clear up various issues. My "AH HAH" came when I realized that the Cummins shops are franchises, not company stores. Many of them hate motorhomes and (I would imagine) dealing with consumers. My success was rooted in the fact that I went directly to Cummins (including the rep who calls on CC and sells them engines - and using their web site), and I was relentless.

PLEASE HEAR THIS UNDER THE TERMS OF THE CUMMINS WARRANTY (5 YEARS, 100,000 MILES), THEY WILL REPLACE ANY ENGINE THEY CANNOT FIX!!!

I guess that the best observation that I can make is that our rigs are machines, and as such they can be fixed. Once you have the tiger by the tail, there are only two ways out. 1) get it fixed, 2) dump it and take a bath. If I can be of help, let me know. Thanks to Damon, I persisted and now I'm going to drive the darn thing until I quit motorhoming.

I'm getting my money's worth, but it was a long process and took much more tencity that I really wanted to apply. "I JUST WANTED TO HAVE FUN" :-)

Chuck--My 2001 Intrigue is/was also plagued by blow by. I found, finally, a good Cummins shop in Sacramento that made adjustments to the Pac Brake and changed the air filter. This took care of about 90% of the problem, but I still get some blowby on the back of the coach. Can you share any other solutions to the problem? Dale and Dede Loop

The "REAL" story on blowby on ISC engines is that the Cummins design engineers decided to reroute the tube that recycles blowby from the crankcase into the intake of the engine so it will be burned up by using an internal "tunnel" in the casting of the engine. The old design (which worked for thousands of engines) employed an external tube. I think my '50 Chevy had one!!!

The fix that worked was to install an external bowby tube. The shop in Bloomington, CA found me one (at that point it did not even have a part number) and installed it.

OH HAPPY DAY!!!

Good Luck, c

All engines have a mist of oil internally. If not vented, it will come out of all of the mating sufaces, usually around the oil pan and valve covers. A practice that has been in use for years is to route it to the intake system of the engine for combustion (it was vented to the atmosphere at one time). If you have the problem you would have a nice thick film of oil all over the back of your rig and tow car!!!! c

PAC has a fix for the blow by problem but this fix is only discovered by talking with CC owners who have some how discovered this on their own. CC should notify all owners with PAC brakes of the fix and assist in getting the units repaired...this is also true of the faulty CACs which CC installed in many units and then forced the owners to pay the labor and shipping charges for the CAC rather than fix it under a recall.
