Roof Air Conditioners dripping

Yahoo Message Number: 4431
I have 3 roof airs on my Affinity. Front & middle units drip water after running an hour in humid Florida. The rear unit doesn't drip.
Any suggestions for a remedy?

Tim,

I see that you have a '98. I think that the Affinity has a drain from the roof airs to the underside of the coach. These could be clogged. Is this the first time that there has been a leak inside? Maybe the first time in really humid area? If this is true then check the drain tubes under the coach. I found that mine had been plugged for the coating of the underside of the coach but the drain from the refrigerator had not been unplugged and water was backing up into the freezer. So make sure the lines are open.

Or maybe the lines are blocked by algae. If that's the case try a little bleach in the tube and blow it out with an air hose (careful not to spray bleach out with air hose).

Dick,

Does your intrigue's ac have drain lines inside the coach? Mine does not.

I also live in the South and have experienced this same problem on two different CC coaches. In both cases it was determined the air conditioners were not properly caulked, thereby allowing the humidified air to get into the coach. Re-sealing them solved the problem.

This is for a Duotherm but could be applied to others.

Tim,

All Affinitys have drains from the roof ACs. If you have water dripping inside, the drains are clogged. Check the end of the drains. On ours, the drain from the front AC comes out just behind the driver's side front wheel. THe middle unit on the curb side in front of the rear wheels. Good luck! Per

Dick: I have experienced the same moisture dripping problem from the rear A/C (onto the bed) in my 40' Intrigue. It only happened when I was in a high humidity climate around Buffalo, NY in July. Also, it did not occur unless the unit was running for an extended period of time. It does not happen here in the west where we have dry desert conditions. It appears to be condensation from the cooling coils that will evaporate under normal operating conditions. There appears to be no provision made in the mounting and location process of the A/C unit. I took the covers off and inspected around mine when this happened, but I concluded it was one of those "extreme conditions" things that couldn't be fixed? Anyone else have a solution?

Gary,

No drain lines on mine either. The condensate just runs (if we're lucky)off the top of the coach and down the side..... But I'm pretty sure the Affinitys have a drain tube.

But I will add that I have not had any leaks into the coach (yet!).

Larry,
I had the same problem in my '98 Intrigue, #10519, but not in my new one. Now the water seem to drain away from the A/C unit.

Chances are you have the same problem I had. The gasket seal between the roof and unit base was not compressed enough. During use, the unit vibrates and the mounting bolts will loosen and the gasket compression will change. The gasket when new is about one inch thick. When properly installed and mount bolts tightened, the gasket is supposed to be compressed to one-half inch for proper seal. There are four bolts typically holding the unit in place and are accessible from inside the coach. Remove the air register (vent) covering the unit on the inside. You can see the edge of the gasket and gain access to the mount bolts from here.

I had a very similar problem in my bedroom. Did not leak while in motion, but once I parked and leveled the coach, it began dripping on the bed. I found the seal not compressed to the one-half inch in one corner. I loosened all the mount bolts to a point ofmaking the gasket equal all around and then tightened each of the four bolts equally until I compressed the gasket to one-half inch all the way around. No more leaks!

Tim,

Try blowing your drip lines, we had that problem on one unit and the line was clogged.

Dick,

As far as I know the Alure and Intrigue do not have drain lines on the ACs.
The Magna, on up has drians. However I don't know about the 2003s.

I think that's correct, Bill. But both methods have had leaks inside the coach.

I wa stold that the A/C manufacturer ahs a kit that will work on Allures and Intrigues that reroutes condensation off of the roof.
Dripping internally??

In 2003 the Allure and Intrigue models by Country Coach mounted the roof airs on SS drip pans that basically have a fitting off the pan. CC connects a braided vinyl hose to this fitting that runs through the roof, down the sidewall, and exits under the coach so the condensation drips on the ground. As far back as I can remember, the Magna models on up had this feature. I believe this would be very difficult to do after the fact.

Damon, my 03 Allure is equipped as you describe; however, I experienced the drip over the bed within days of the purchase. It was not sealed properly at the factory, and resealing it stopped the problem. It pays to check both the drip l;ine and the sealing.
