ISL power and Engine temps

While I have been satisfied with the power of my coach, I may suffer from an overheat issue during extended uphill pulls. Recently engine temps went to 211 on the Silverleaf and a water temp light lit on the dash. I don't know if the temp was topped out as we topped the hill then. The hill was an eastern version of a mountain, west bound on an interstate 5-6% grade 2 miles long. Of course since then, I watch the temps closely and they are running from 185 to 202. Ambient temps were in the upper 90's. What would be considered normal?

Tom, normal temps on mine under the circumstances you describe are 190 to 200 with an occasional run up to 204. The problem with the Silverleaf is that we feel we know precisely what is going on with the engine. I think that the reality is that if you didn't de-rate you were probably ok.

On our '06 Allure with the ISL unless it's cool & damp outside ours will normally run from between 185-205. On a hard climb when it's hot (a few weeks ago we were driving through a desert area where it was over 112) we have seen it get to 214 or so. Anytime it gets over 210 we watch it carefully. The hotest ours has gotten was 220 just when we were pulling over to let it cool down. I believe that on ours it won' t derate until about 224.

All readings were based upon the Silverleaf display.

One thing to remember is, on long uphill pulls the best favor you can do your engine is to down shift before it does it automatically. Keeping your RPMs up keeps the hyd pump pressure up and gives the fan motor plenty of speed to cool.
