Front Door Opening on 98 Intrigue

Yahoo Message Number: 62285
I'm having a problem with the front door opening on our 98 Intrigue. Originally the 20" piston was about 12 pounds. Even then the door seemed to snap open if you didn't hang on to it. When I replaced it, the lowest force I could find was 20#. It really snaps the door open now. We're used to it but friends let the door go and it damages the screen and probably the door. It usually pulls the head off of the piston and the door comes back and pokes a hole in the screen.
Anyone find a mechanism that will open the door more slowly. Possibly put something on the door to limit travel. I'm going to start looking into some ideas and will eventually come up with an "elegant" idea. But if someone has solved the problem we can go directly to "Happy Hour".

Any thoughts. let me know.

Me too. Same problem. If the door handle is released the the prop force quickly slams the door to the 90 degree, full open position. Three years ago I purchased a replacement from CC. But, the results were the same. Having had other priorities, I put the project on the back burner.
I am on a long Summer trip now but, when I get home I plan to talk to the prop source about possibly using a double acting piston instead of the single. These provide detent in both directions.
Has anyone tried this? Did it work? What spring force poundage is best to do a good job without requiring too much effort to open or close?

Just installed a new "Gas Prop" on the door and it work great!! Can open the door and release and the door opens slowly. It's RV Designer #21, length 20in, 10#. RV designer phone # 800-938-5883, www.rvdesigner.com, bought it at Sandy's in Tucson, she ordered it and cost was $16.50. Worked so good went back and bought a spare.
