2000 Allure + CRV + Minor Info.

Congratulations Perry & Lynda.

We have a 36' 2000 Allure # 30580 with 330 ISC + IFS + Large tires and tow a 2002 CRV. At #3350 lbs you won't know the CRV is tagging along and it tracks great. We bought the Falcon 5250 towbar by Roadmaster one year ago and am happy with it. Although we haven't needed any towbar repairs, comments in the various forums praise the Roadmaster Co. in this regard. The base plate's attachment is through the car's grill so it blends in with the grill's design and does not protrude as prior bars did. Hooking up can be done alone...or with my wife easily in about 2 minutes.
After the towbar was installed at Camping World in N. Calif. the horn had a sick resonating sound ....kinda like the Aflac Duck... cuz the connection is very close the horn's connection...merely bending the connection abit solved it.
Within this past year we toured W. Canada + Alaska and most recently, the SW of the USA. The car has an electronic odometer so towed miles will NOT add on. Driving to-in-from Alaska resulted in mud collection. We learned that a grinding noise when driving the CRV was due to the mud collecting on the AWD and ABS sensors which are located on the inner / lower aspect, below the axle of the tires...was solved with a strong spray of water.
The Allure's trip odometer is essentially not readable and CC has had lots of complaints about it.....to replace it is impractacle. I keep a small flashlight handy which allows me to read the numbers. I'd like to have the CRV's odometer on the Allure....it has 3 legible readings.
Be sure you read and follow the CRV owners manual regarding towing. We keep a small mfgs checklist in the car + test the turn signals + drive a few feet after hooking up as the wife observes that all is OK. Towing with the car's brake on is a no-no.
Consider buying a pair of small hand held CB radios ( Costco = $ 70.00 ) to communicate getting in / out of sites, when separately driving vehicles, etc. The wife's hairdryer has caused the 110V fuse to pop....its hidden in the coach's battery compartment above and behind the small removeable metal panel. We experienced a variety of electrical problems that were solved once we replaced all 3 batteries recently. Keep an eye on the chassis battery...our water level needs attention about once a month. A convenient battery-fill bottle that has a tip that controls the amount of water is available at any auto parts store. We've also installed the Heart Freedom 2000 Remote Control Panel so have better battery status and control....cost = $ 250.00 installed. Check with the prior owner that factory recalls have been done. Notify CC that you are the current owner in the event of future recalls.
There is alot of helpful info. you can gain by reading this groups prior messages.
Best of luck ....Don
