Blown Air Bag

I posted a message on Saturday indicating my left front airbag had suddenly exploded while settled in a campsite in Rockport, Maine.
Within 30 minutes of posting my message I had a reply from George Fey who, amazingly, had also just arrived in Rockport, Maine in a similar coach and he had a spare air bag which I could use if it fit.
On Monday morning, through Coachnet, the Boulet Truck Service arrived from about 50 miles away and the technician very efficiently jacked up the coach, removed the left front wheel and removed the shredded air bag. Remarkably, the air bag from George Fey was identical and he was able to install it in short order.
Talk about lucky!! I was lucky this happened in a campground, I was extremely lucky that George saw my message and had a spare air bag, I was lucky it was the right airbag and I was lucky that the truck service sent by Coachnet was expert and efficient.
Incidentally, these air bags are made by Firestone and I am able to order replacements without difficulty.

What would cause an airbag to blow out? Do the get old or is it some kind of road hazard? Walt

In retrospect, the airbag may have started leaking just before it blew out because about an hour before it blew I levelled the coach, and after 10 minutes after leveling the pump came on and stayed on. I finally turned the leveling off assuming the site was not level enough, though the coach appeared fairly level. Shortly thereafter the airbag exploded. When it was removed there was no sign of external trauma but the bag was wide open, a hole big enough to put my head in, but the edges were smooth. So I have to assume there was just a weakness that finally gave out.
Any other suggestions??
