Fan test update

Appreciate the input. My controller (Saur Sundstrand) has a six wire connector, not two. The challenge continues.

Lyle,

Mine has 2 connectors, a 6 wire and a 2 wire. The two wire is the 12 volt dc supply and the 6 wire is sensor inputs.

Lyle,

The fan modulator defaults to high speed when there is no DC supply to the controller. You are likely already at full fan speed. The fan controller adjusts the hydraulic modulator valve to regulate the fluid flow to the fan motor. With no input from the controller it defaults to wide open.

The 6 wire plus two wire power connection is indicative of the 1090409 controller. The six wires are two wire each for the three inputs which are 1) coolant temp 2) charge air temp 3) A/C high side pressure trinary switch.
And it is true that if the 12VDC power is interrupted the fan will default to high speed.

Lyle, If you are running in the summer without over heating you are spending al least some time at high speed.
If your 12VDC supply to the SD controller is disconnected you should be defaulted to high speed and you are likely to be running at too low a temperature.

What is your temperature status?

My guess is that the DC wire is connect to a spring loaded hydraulic valve that is spring loaded to the open or closed position when DC power is removed? So, perhaps the DC power is connected to a solenoid or something that compresses the sping to hold the valve in the proper position?
