Xantrek over heating

Yahoo Message Number: 63134
My Xantrek is overheating causing a fault. I have check the settings and I think things are normal. Now that the day is cooling off a little it seems better. Should you be able to see, hear, feel the fan in the Xantrex Freedom 458 running? I can see it stop start and when it does run there is no fan noise.

Any other suggestions.

if your's is mounted in the bay with no vent you need to put a fan in the bay wall with an vent low & a fan high to blow the heat out. this helped on my '02 Magna 6028 bob

Mine is in a bay but it is a little open. Now in the daylight I can see the fan is not running at anything fast enough or at all to create an airflow.

Where can I get one?

Also has anyone mounted an external fan right over the fan grill? Does anyone know if the existing fan blows in or out?

John is right. My Magna lacked a cooling fan in the inverter bay. As a result, my original Freedom gave overheat faults. It was damaged and had to be replaced. I cut a hole into the wall adjoining the bay where the cord reel and water filter sit and mounted a 110 volt pancake fan and attic fan thermostat on there. Just blows into there. Never had a problem since. But boy does that fan run, especially when the charger is on. And yes, with the inverter bay open and my head in there, I can definitely hear the fan in my 458 3k watt running when it is.

John,

Mine has two fans in the inverter bay controlled by a thermostat, I assumed they all had that feature to remove hot air from the enclosed bay. I have one fan not working and just ordered a replacement from Papst. The fans exhaust air and mine are obviously factory installed. I have the thermostat set a 90. I had installed a remote temp sensor on my previous coach and the temps on the bay would easily go over 100 in the summer heat without the fans running. The inverter will for sure shut down due to heat.

Tom, this is interesting since I had a number of talks with CC about this. They had me crawling all over the place looking for those factory installed fans. Someone had a bad day on mine apparently.

Mine are certainly factory installed, they have CC wire numbers to them, fabricated vents through the floor that direct the hot air to the rear of the Coach and have metal grates to keep critters from getting inside.

I have no fans in my bay other than the one that is inside the inverter, I do have a vent however similar to described above. I was ok last night, the weather was a few degrees cooler and I opened the bay door until after sunset. The inverter gets warm but did not shut down.
It seems to me that the inverter fan is not working, and I could maybe solve the problem by installing a fan on the inverter over the grill where the included fan is. My question is, does the Xantrek fan suck air into the box or blow air out of the box? Thanks

John,

The inverter fan is just filling the compartment with hot air. It exhausts out the rear of the inverter. If it would help, I could send you a picture of how mine is set up, but the answer is to pull air from the compartment and vent to the outside or into another compartment without any electronics. If you already have a vent, just wire in a 4" 12v fan from radio shack to exhaust the hot air. Just wire a switch in-line and let it run all the time when your using the coach or install a thermostat to control it.
If your inverter internal fan is not working, that would be the first priority.
