Auragen vehicle driven generator

Yahoo Message Number: 63512
I understand this item can perform the functions of the main engine alternator, battery charger/inverter, and isn't limited to providing AC and DC power while in transit, but while the main engine is off as well (provided there's a battery bank). I'm told Auragen came with many Country Coaches but as I have a Wanderlodge, I'm wondering if anybody is disposing of their Auragen who'd care to sell it. Does anybody have an opinion about how it works. I believe they are customarily belt driven by the main engine, but I wonder if they could be run by the drive shaft? Thanks and I look forward to finding out what makes Country Coach a much sought after brand. I'm also interested in converting to waste vege oil and possibly switching to all electric like the (I believe Country Coach) Affinity model.

John, I don't believe there was ever production model built with the Aura as either standard or an option. The product sure does look good on paper but it seems to me that it only makes economic sense at time of build or if the aux genset has died.

Here is a link to the manufacturer web site for those interested.

Country did a few Prevost XL2 with the option but very expensive and belt driven, sounded like a jet engine.

The Auragen was standard equipment on the Prevost Conversions starting in 2002 (L series) but were eventually phased out and replaced by a large inverter and 300a/24VDC belt driven alternator. They were very expensive, somewhat unreliable and at that time impossible to get due to supplier financial problems and yes they were pretty noisy. George is correct about the 'economic sense'...unless the 20kw generator quit it was a redundant system that only worked with the chassis engine running.
