Access to the step cover motor

Yahoo Message Number: 63532
I am having trouble operating the cover to the steps. I put in a new switch and that didn't help. I checked each wire carefully to make sure had a good connection to the back of the rocker switch. The only way I can get the cover to slide in and out is to lift up on the cover while the rocker button is being pushed. I can't see how to get under the step cover to check the connections. Can the carpet covered board under the step cover be removed to get to the wiring? Any help would be appreciated.

The problem with mine was the micro switch inside the cross-beam where the rack/pinion mechanism resides. This system runs accross the coach under the driver's seat to the passenger side. It is about a 4 hour job (for me anyway)to change the micro switches. There is two of them so I went ahead a changed both while I had it apart. On my coach (03 Allure), I can see the beam in the ceiling of the outside, fwd electrical bay located under the driver's seat. From under the coach, you have to remove a large rectangular panel (2'X 15"?) with about 12 bolts. This panel can be seen while laying under the front of the coach, in-line with the beam located in the electrical bay. You then have to disconnect the linkage under the panel, so you can slide the whole assemby out from the cross-beam in the electrical bay. I also had to dismount the fuse box in the electrical bay to remove the motor. You can leave all the wires connected to the fuse box. The part numbers I wrote down 4 years ago are a little cryptic: D44LR IRA? 40T85? 10A 1/2 HP 125/250 NEWARK ELECTRONICS Orlando, FL phone 407 8968350. I think one of these part numbers will work if you call and talk to them. I might be able to find out more/better info if you need it. In the interim, I found that taking a hammer and rapping on the cross-beam located in the ceiling of the electrical bay, got the step cover working for a day or two (maybey longer?). Send PM if you like. Good luck

Gene,

My cover failed to operate due to the motor arm coming disconnected from the cover. These are my findings upon the repair. The underside of the cover is accessed from under the coach. A cover plate can be removed by removing six bolts from the bottom of the coach. On my coach there are no wires in this area. The motor can be accessed in the bay directly under the driver where you can inspect the electrical wires and connections. My coach is older so I hope this info is helpful Fritz 1998 Allure 30223
