Smartire Monitoring Problems

Yahoo Message Number: 63981
I started loosing readout with the tow vehicle, then RV duals and tag. I've not found the antenna locations in the engine compartment, rear axle, or steering axle. I can't imagine loosing them at the same time. It did happen within a matter of miles between Flagstaff and Gallop.
I've been unable to locate any service centers. The factory no longer manufacturers or provides support for the RV Smartire. The Dickman tire center in Junction City where they were installed no longer sells the system, nor does Camping World. A tech a Dickman Tire gave me a few diagnostic pointers without any change in the system.
My request is for assistance in identifying any tech support available in Colorado Springs, Colorado area, and alternatives for tire pressure monitoring if I have to replace the existing system.

Hi Ron,

We just had the same issue and it turned out to be the receiver.
After $235 it was back up and running..
We tried all of the 'pointers' and bit the bullet with the receiver replacement.
Glad we did.

I would try contacting Les Schwab Tire, Junction City, OR.

Ron this is a wild guess but you could go to your SilverLeaf control center and see if the SmartTire programming functions are there showing the right information. You could try to change a setting to see if the programmer responds. This might provide a troubleshooting clue.

Also, does the SmarTire manual have a troubleshooting section?
I think Dickman Tire in JC did my set-up. As I recall, if I open the rear curb bay and look toward the rear interior of the engine area I can see an antenna with a magnet mount sitting on a chassis frame member.

Appreciate all the feedback. No luck yet identifying solution.
1. Les Schwab dba Dickman Tire, Junction City does not stock Smartire parts, nor sell them. Camping World and other RV parts sites that I checked had the same story.
2. SilverLeaf control center has no Smartire programming functions.
3. No diagnostics in the Smartire owner's manual.
4. Communication with Smartire customer service: Unfortunately SmarTire products are no longer available in the passenger car, light truck, recreational vehicle or motorcycle markets and the company has ceased support for these product categories. Parts may be available via your vehicle manufacturer or at the dealer where you purchased your system. Bendix holds no inventory to support service parts.
5. Am now considering a new system that has valve stem sensors, researching information on these products.

ANY FURTHER FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED. THANKS.

Ron:

If the problem is antenna related I may be able to help you.
First I need to know if you have found any antenna or antennas.
They should be fairly easy to spot. They are about 6 inches long and attached with a magnetic mount with the wire running to the receiver.
There is an easy way to verify an antenna problem, but you must find it first.
I can't hardly beleive someone would steal them.
If your coach has a tag there may well be 3 antennas.

First things first. If you want help let me know.
I am of the beleif the Smart Tire system to still be the best system.
I havwe it in my toad also and it reads in the coach.

I have been reading this with interest - if Smartire still supports 18 wheeler trucks, most of these Country Coaches utilize 18 wheeler size tires. I doubt the electronics knows the difference, and it seems short sighted for Smartire to be prejudiced against RVs - there is something here I do not understand. Maybe some of us need to buy the RV section of Smartire, and make a living. ;*) Jack Nichols, 2003 Intrigue with 22.5 wheels and tires, 11527

Ron, just a thought. Call SilverLeaf (they have good customer service) and double check that your unit does not support SmarTire. I only bring this up because my 2007 Intrigue with SilverLeaf does. You got nothing to loose.

Hi Ron,

Please keep us posted on your research. I found it interesting, and of course may be wrong, that our 04 Allure Smart Tire did not include readings for the Tag's, let alone the Toad. Assume that those of you talking about Tag's and Toads, had optional equipment.
I was also thinking of replacing our current Smart Tire, with a system that would support the full set of tires (Front, Drive, Tags, Front Toad, Rear Toad) and the repeater is going to be required to do so. I was doing this, because as I was getting new shoes for the rig, I wanted to put in new sending batteries. This was the first I found that Smart Tire was no longer being supported.

I'll keep checking this link...
