Maintenance Question, Transmission Fluid

Having the transmission fluid changed in the near future. Present fluid is Dexon 3, thinking I will go to Transend. One shop said if you have Dexon, stick with it, others state that the Transend is much better. Allison states not to flush the T-Converter but it takes two fluid changes to get the full effect of the Transend.
Will probably go with the Transend. Got a quoted price of $350 for the service including the filters (MD3060). What's the consensus on going to the Transend? Is that a fair price for the service?

Absolutely go with the Transend. Do a search, you will find LOTS of discussion on this. It always comes out in the favor of synthetic. I changed ours over when we got it home. Big difference in performance. I used Amsoil. Be sure the Allison filters are used, as listed by you. Seems a problem with other filters.

I strongly advise against switching over to Transyns from Dex. I did this last year (pure Trans changeover--can be done) and my tranny runs significantly hotter, not cooler as claimed by Allison and one downshift is a bit hard. As I have discussed this with techs around the country and some owners, this is very common in a tranny that was born with Dex when changing over to Trans. No one can explain this but it happens for sure. I will be going back to Dex eventually. Don't do it. Big mistake. If born with Trans, stay with Trans, etc.

I made the change about 5,000 miles ago. Seems to be fine and running a few degrees cooler. Nothing major.

FYI on my 99 Allure had my Allison MD3060 flushed and Transyn and Filters changed. Arround three years ago by an Allison Dealer and Repair center in Rapid City S.D. at Johnnys truck service. They do Comm trucks, Busses and Fire trucks etc. I have put on over 10k miles and have had no shifting changes! Im and Engine Tech not a Tranny guy so I had them do this on their request. Other friends have had this done and have herd no Issues. I dont have a Fluid temp Ga. Im sure this shop knows what their doing. I check the fluid all the time and dab it on a white paper towel. Guess if it were me have the fluid sampeld. Ken Ret Caterpillar Engine/Power Systems tech. 99 Allure 30356 with 75k miles. Im a dealer guy so I would have Allison do it and have a laptop put on the Tranny and check for codes. In a few years will have the fluid changed again and it to was around $350
