HELP! TV for 2005 Allure

Yahoo Message Number: 64157
Hi All,

Hope all is well.

Mino wanted to see how the TV was mounted, so he proceeded to unscrew the screw under the frame. What a surpise when the frame with the TV fell down. The cables disconnected. Now we wonder if it is a good time to have a new updated HD installed. We would like to have help in finding a good TV. We are headed for Costco for a look. The 'old' HD TV is without the box. The reason for getting a new HD. We have Direct TV but do get HD since our satelite is not HD. Camping World did not tell us when we bought the satelite that it was not HD compatible but connected the HD cable box to the antenna anyway! We are now in the Dallas, TX area.
Thanks for all you help.

IMHO I find it hard to beat the new LED edge illuminated units. We have purchased several of the Samsungs which we found to be highly rated and performance is fantastic. There are several others at either Sams or Costco now with the LED illumination. One of the primary reasons I like these is because they operate on a fraction of the energy consumption. The two in our 2007 Allure radiate what seems to be a tremendous amount of heat... Another advantage is they are much thinner and lighter.
We bought a couple of the 55" units, not for the MH, and I could lift them onto the wall bracket alone where the older flat screen plasma and LCD I couldn't.
Others can weigh in other features or benefits such as scanning rates but my old eyes sure like the new technology even if it isn't HD.

Marianne:

You did not say whether your say whether your satellite connection is in motion or not. At this time, for at least DirecTV, there is no in motion system available. Period. One of the problems is the stationary dish has 5 LNBs, there are too many satellites for an in motion system to stay locked to and one would need to lock onto another statellite when you changed channels. That would take time; it ain't as easy as it looks.

If it is not in motion there are several HD systems available.
We have an '05 Inspire - the Inspire and Allure were not built to be HD ready according to a handout CC provided at the Amana, IA rally - in spite of the fact our rig came with an HD capable receiver. It had no HD tuner and I did not see an HD signal on that set until I bought an HD box when the analog signals were shut down.
There are so many good TV's to choose from today. The only strong caveat I know about is don't install a plasma set in an RV as they do not take kindly to altitude changes.
Over two years ago we changed to Samsung LCD sets in the house and RV and love them but that is old hat now.
One thing I learned - the sales people have some pretty impressive lines to steer you to one set or another. IMHO buy the one with the best looking picture and don't listem to their creative bovine fecal material. All the sets are (or should be) getting the same signal. So the best looking one is probably the best. I have hear some doozies about certain manufacturers tinting their TVs' appearance to appeal to one group or another and there's reallyu nothing wrong with that TV, it;s the best one in the house..... Right.
Consumer Reports does very objective testing of TV's, check out their website. Do lots of measuring or take the coach to one of the several shops that do cabinetry work and have them install to look factory. I bought one that was within 1/8" top to bottom and about 3" narrower than the original. Now I have lots of cooling for the new HDTV.

Thanks for the input. I am glad we didn't make it to Costco since I got some good hints.
