LA Roads and Fuel Prices

Greetings from the swamps of LA. For those heading east this summer a bit of good news and a warning. In Houston TX we paid $1.27 for diesel and were were warned not to fuel in LA. Noted at a Cononco truck stop situated next to a refinery, in Louisiana that they were charging $1.49. In Biloxi it dropped to $1.19, so you may want to plan not to fuel up in LA if headed this way.
As regards the roads of LA. We had always thought they built their roads, at least I-10, in 20 foot long concret sections, then abutted them together with at least an inch in height difference, so that one received a resounding bump when one arrived at each succeeding section. We used to try to adjust our speed so that we set up a responding harmonic "bouncing"of the coach, trying to "jump" from one section to another. The good news is that most of I-10 has now been asphalted, and its so smoooooth that we could brew a fresh pot of coffee as we were rolling down the road at 70mph. Most of it, that is. Of course we also encountered 17 mile long sections being asphalted, with a resulting 5mph crawl for an hour or so, but it was a good break, and far preferrable to bouncing up and down in our seats uncontrollalbly.
