NEC projection tv on Intrigue Ovation

Hi,

We are the latest owners of a 2004 42' Intrigue Ovation. It's equipped with a NEC LT 260 DLP projection tv and Bose surround sound. Nice setup if it wasn't for what seems to be a poor design for heat dissipation for the projector. About 1/4 way through Top Gun the projector cut off for thermal overload. Looking closer, it seems that the molded plastic cowl with small blower fans is inadequate to handle the heat buildup from the projector. Has anyone experienced this and if so, have you found a good solution? My quick guess is that the cowl needs to be removed, the projector needs stand offs to create more air space between it and its mounting pad to allow for some air movement, and more substantial fans are needed to strip the heat away from the projector. That's a five minute assessment. But, I don't want to go to the trouble of experimenting if someone has already solved this problem. Any owners already dealt with this problem? Thanks!

Ron,

We owned the same coach with the same set up for more than five years. Never had a problem with overheating. Thus, I would say it wasn't a design problem. What you will find is that the fans will actually start up in the summer even if the projection system is not on, because of the heat build up in the coach when it is sitting closed up.
You might want to check the fan speed to insure that it is functioning properly.

Thanks, Martin.

Hmm, curious. The two small blower fans in the projector cowl were on whenever the projector was on, but the heat buildup from the projector was still way high, which tripped the thermal overload on the projector. When I pulled the cowl off after the projector tripped off, the projector was in the 150 degree temp area. As a side note, once I let the projector cool down and left the cowl off, we were able to watch the rest of the movie without a similar thermal incident although the projector and the ceiling above it still got dangerously hot.

Now that I have heard someone say they have had no problems I'll jump in. Depending on the model of NEC you can have one or two micro air filters that should be cleaned every 100 hours or so, especially if you live in the Dust country of the Southwest. I had to clean filters every ninety days at a hospital where we installed a dozen or so projectors for their two year service contract period. A Hospital with "filtered" air was the last place management thought they would have issues.
