Almost every CC has this LEAK !!!!!!!!

Yahoo Message Number: 4831
We discovered the source of a nagging leak. We were informed by the dealer that most Country Coaches that they see have the same leak and the fix is real easy. I'll share the details here.
If you look at the side of your Country Coach, you'll see a cap about 1 inch high that covers the gap between the roof and side wall. That same cap often runs down the rear of the coach to cover the gap between the rear cap and side wall and then all the way from the front to the rear of the coach covering the gap between the bottom of the side wall and basement bay doors.
If you look closely at the cap along the roof section, you'll notice that both the top and bottom edge of the cap is caulked with a small bead of clear silicone. BUT, the cap that goes between the side wall and basement doors is only caulked on the top edge. That's because the design of the CC side wall has this extra bump (about 5 inches tall and 1/2 inch thick) that runs just above the bay doors and just below the small cap. That bump makes it difficult to get the tip of a caulking gun in the small groove to caulk the bottom of the cap, so the factory doesn't caulk there.

What happens is that water runs down the side of the coach and over the 1" cap then it hits the top of the 5" bump. Then, capillary action draws the water up inside the small 1" cap and inside your coach. The result is that water seeps behind the fiberglass panel.
Typical symptoms include water rust stains down the inside of any of the bay doors, water drips inside the bays, and rusty water dripping down the face of the radiator.

The fix is really easy. Just run a bead of clear silicone caulk all the way around your coach on the bottom side of the cap. If you want a real professional look, use your finger to smash the silicone into the offending slit in the bottom of the cap and remove all the excess caulk so you have a really nice finished appearance.

I wish someone would have told me of this - hope it helps you.

Hello David;

The bay doors are not the problem, nor do they contribute to it in any way. The problem comes from the fact that the 1" cap is not caulked on the bottom.

Robert
