Winegard Trav'ler SK-3005 Installation Questions

Yahoo Message Number: 66658
I am preparing to install satellite TV onto my 2004 Country Coach Allure. I have a new Winegard Trav'ler SK-3005 in the box and an activated DirecTV HD DVR on board. The coach is supposedly pre-wired for satellite, but satellite TV has never been previously installed in the coach. A friend has the same model and floor plan coach as mine. His coach has a sticker on the roof, just in front of the forward AC and about 1" off the center line, which says "DRILL HOLE 1" DEEP FOR SATELLITE PRE-WIRING". The corresponding sticker is missing on my coach. My questions are:

1. Where, exactly, can I expect to find the pre-wiring? Would it be directly under the place where the sticker was on my friend's coach? Or would it be located on a center line from that point to some point forward? Someplace else? How to know? How would you drill to it without potentially damaging the cables? How big a hole should be drilled?
2. What type of cabling can I expect to find when I do locate the pre-wiring? I have found an unused coax end (labled "A") in the cabinet where the entertainment components are located. That coax comes down from the ceiling and is with the coax from the OTA antenna, so I expect that is the coax for the satellite. The coaxial cable from the OTA antenna and cable TV are labled "B" and "C". I see no other line that might be a power line or control line. Is it likely that the pre-wiring consists solely of a single coaxial cable?
3. Would I be better off to ignore the factory pre-wiring? I could drill a hole through the roof over the entertainment cabinet and drop the cables directly into the coach there. The Trave'ler has what appears to be a proprietary power/control cable that connects to its inside controller, so I will probably have to do that anyway, for at least that cable. Why not take the signal coax(es) down that way too and ignore the pre-wiring?

All advice and suggestions are appreciated!

I say go with option 3, then you know you have the correct wires for your system, and most prewire options were not all that good. I been doing installs for over 25 years, and have used prewires maybe 3 times, and found problems on all three.
Each brand available runs on different wires most likely any how.

Myron,

My coach came from the factory with an in-motion Tracstar system. Since it won't do DirecTV HD, I purchased a Winegard HD Travler. I left the Tracstar in place and mounted the Winegard behind it and cut a new access hole above the entertainment center. I believe I cut about a 1" hole. This allowed (3) coax cables and the power cord from the Winegard. I also installed a coax A/B switch inside and now have DirecTV SD stations rolling down the road and then HD when I park.
I would not try find the existing cable without an accurate diagram.

Hi Rob, I have the same situation you have with your 2 dishes. On my o5 Intrigue I had that winguard an I loved it. Since then I traded for an 09 Grand Praire Allure With the in motion .

Could you please tell me where you got your AB SWITCH.

I use many A/B switches that I get from RaidoShack, they seem to perform fine, and have had no issues with them. The cost around $16
