turn key, nothing happens-update

I had noted in a previous post that I had also experienced this problem on our 03 Allure.

Cummins said they were not aware of any trend of this problem with the starter on the 370 ISL. (Assuming that is was a Cummins starter).
Holland Motors response was "we would not know where to look for a problem, let us know if it happens again." (Like I am supposed to have it towed back to Mich from Arizona, I guess).
Country Coach tech support said they have gone to a different solenoid, they had been having some problems with the old style.
They sent me a new one, I swapped them out, we will see if we have the problem again.

The old one was silver, cylindrical in shape, with the batt. and starter conn. on the sides, (where mr. Potatohead's ears would be).
The new one has them both on the same side, lined up horizontally, and is brown plastic.

It is located in the front service bay.

However, I'm getting nervous. In your contact with CC was there any mention of a recall to install the new solonoid?

Jim Craig said nothing about a recall, just that they had started using a new solenoid.

Because we are leaving today for a couple weeks in the Carolinas, he said he would send one out to reduce the chances of a problem. Of course, there is no way to know where my problem is for sure. Time will tell.

We recently posted a similar problem with our Allure 30778. We were stuck in Hilton Head SC - coach wouldn't start, etc. etc. Country Coach sent us one of the "new" solenoids - but it was to replace the "start" solenoid which (on Allures) is located right rear "firewall", just inside the bumper.
They sent it via overnight express - we replaced it (yes, the new one looks different), but the coach still would not start. We jumpered the starter and drove it 600 miles home - then with a good meter started following the power from the front to the back.

Turns out, the little diode was bad (the one which was wired across the two smaller terminals on this soleniod). In talking with CC during this episode, a tech told me that this diode had been added to correct some sort of back-feed issue in the past. We still don't know if this diode is necessary in the long run, but the coach starts fine without it now. With the diode hooked into the system, only 6 volts was coming across - without it, the full 12 volts is there.
I e-mailed the tech about it - he ignored the diode question and only said that they had problems with a lot of these solenoids.

Is there any way to check the solenoid to see if it is going to fail? I am getting ready to head out in a couple of weeks and would know that just wait until "my turn" and be stuck in the boonies somewhere

There is really no way to check a solenoid without dismantling it. Much better to carry a spare and scope out the location and tools ahead of time. Now will someone give us the model number? Or should we contact Cummins? DougRosenberg Allure 36' # 30929

One, there's no way to tell ahead of time if one of these solenoids is going to fail. The tech at CC said they often start failing intermittently prior to total failure.

Two,I don't have the part number (threw away the packing), but it's not a Cummins issue. CC installs these. Ours that failed was the one in the right rear - there's another solenoid that looks exactly the same that's located in the steering bay (left front compartment) on Allures. Both are part of the ignition system and either can fail.
In our case, the diode wired across the smaller two terminals of the rear solenoid also failed. The CC tech said this diode is not necessary to run the coach, but we still don't know if it should be replaced. Waiting on further response from them.
