Problem keeping PT 7000 running.

I just purchased a 96 Intrigue.

Having problems with the Generator. I can start it, but doesn't staying running. Anyone have any ideas on that?
Fuel pump runs, glow plugs work. I consider myself a pretty good mechanic, but stumped on this one.

Help, please.

I am not familiar with the 1996 interter system on your coach but I had a simular situation. My question to you is this happening after the generator runs for a couple minutes or does it happen right away?
With my situation, I had my inverter panel set to have the generator automatically shut down at a certain charging phase or voltage and if I tried to manually run the generator it would just shut it down a couple minutes later because the automatic feature was kicking in that told the generator that the battery was charged or the voltage required was less than needed.
If the gernerator is just shutting down immediately after you start it then my problem is not the same. I fixed mine but just turning the autostart feature to off. That would indicate a fuel starvation (pressure) or oil pressure situation. Not likely a cooling problem unless you are completely out of radiator fluid.

My Coach is a 1996 Intrigue with a Power Tech 7000 w/1200 hrs. Don't know when it was last used, because I just purchased it.

I can start the Generator, but it shuts down right afterwards.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same gen and had the same problem. It turned out to be the voltage regulator. Call Power Tech in FL and they will give you the proceedure to test the voltage regulator. It's really easy. If you have a manual you can find other test proceedures, if u don't have one I believe you can find it online, or at least get one from powertech. good luck.

Had the problem 18 months ago on the PT7000.
After buying and installing a new fuel shutoff solenoid and following the steps in the generator manual for trouble shooting,I took it to a generator shop. They replaced the voltage regulator and that was the fix.
You can find the manual online and it gives reasonably detailed trouble shooting flow chart. The manual for newer generators basically mirrors the 1994 manual that came with my older coach.

Ken here, I have the same Generator, Am about to replace rotted/cracked fuel lines check yours!. I use to say working for Cat is it the enging stopping or the generator not putting out voltage? Keep us posted. Mine has 400 hrs. always runs great and I run monthly with bith Airs. Use my little 2kw Honda when boondocking. Power Tech gives good support. Ken 99 Allure 30356
