Front end protection

Yahoo Message Number: 67665
Hi,

They have finished painting the front end of my 2007 inspire and next week sometime someone will install the frontend protection. I don't have any pictures of what it is supposed to look like. I remember for instance that it looked like the material was cut with a punch around the wiper blade base.

What is the material used.

Would anyone have a picture of what it looks like around the mirrors and how or where it is ended?

Thanks
John

Are you asking about the 3M paint protection film?
Each installation is cut by the installer, there are no kits that I am aware of for our rigs. Some automobiles have pre-cut kits but every install on a moho is custom and at the whim and skill of the installer.
Mine has been done twice. Once by whoever CC contracted with in Junction City the warranty replacement by the same outfir that does the work for Lazy Days in Florida. Both were acceptable installations.
My first film lasted less than 3 years; the installer this time around says 5 years is average with the newer formulation. If you keep yuor rig covered or in storage it will last a lot longer.

Bob -

On the CCI forum you inquired about a bra for your Inspire. When Ron and I went to Alaska in 2009, we found the 3M mask gave the coach sufficient protection. We did speak with some who had bras on their coach or who were taking them off. Most felt that the rub of the bra on the clear coat and 3M did more damage than letting the 3M handle the job.

Thanks to all for your information,
Just a note, my 4 year old sun abused protection still looked great. It was removed due to body damage from whacking a deer. It also easily survived Alaska without a bra.
Could anyone tell me how far around the corner towards the rear it goes?

There is a large nut inside the pan threaded to the fitting. It has two parallel humps on either side of the nut that allows you to tighten the assembly from the out side of the pan. Mine worked it self loose somehow just enough to allow the oil seepage you noticed and the vibration and twisting of the engine caused the fiber glass to fail around the fitting. There fore, I had to have an metal pan installed as Cummins doesn't make the fiber glass one anymore. With different wholes in the metal pan from the factory the Cummins service center re-plumbed my coach. $$$$. Another issue is where the drain plug is located. IT being attached to the fitting coming out of the pan. I believe part of the problem or reason for failure of the pan was caused by techs not support the pan fitting while tightening and removing the plug used to change the oil! I now have a drain valve installed in the pan rather than a drain plug.

John, as each install is custom by the installer it varies. Mine goes about half way to the seam where the front cap and body meet. I asked for an additional piece over the front step and he put it on for free (well a tip anyway). There is no need for it to go all the way to the seam becase "stuff" just doesn't hit there. I am guessing that's why.
