Norcold swapout complete

Finally the job is done. Norcold out, Samsung RF197 in, Windshield reinstalled, etc. Looks great and really quiet. Quite an involved job with many details. If the Samsung had been 1/8 inch deeper on the outside dimension we would not have made it between the box and the opposing counter top. It fits in the hole tight as a rubber glove. Cost $1475 with one bill outstanding for a trim carpenter. Should beat my two grand budget by a smidgen. Cost includes the Samsung, handy man help, hardware, tips, windshield out and in, etc.

We just finished the Norcold cooling unit replacement. I considered a freon refrigerator but decided to go with a repair instead. Can you share any pictures of your project? Norcold certainly hasn't endeared itself to customers with the rash of recalls then recalls to recalls designed to avoid a fire that could destroy your coach. The Pines RV Refrigeration cooling unit seems to work quite well although the repair is a difficult one and at times frustrating. The new CU hits -10F in the freezer box leaving some margin to crank down the settings. The biggest draw back to the gas absorption CU is keeping it level. That sort of knocks out using it during travel. You won't have that problem with the Samsung. At 18 CUFT you'll have plenty of cold storage.

Lyle - I think your best bet is to use
www.photobucket.com to upload your pictures. It's a free photo sharing service. Once you've uploaded them you can include a link to a slide show or just provide the links here to a few selected shots. Folks love to see pictures!

Here are some of the pictures of this install I uploaded on the Yahoo Photo album site. Some of the pictures show up as landscape and should be portrait. If you click on original at the top left of the screen it will show them as they should be. Photobucket.com or some of the other free sites probably would be better for presention.

I have up loaded some of the pictures of my 19.7 samsung refrigerator conversion under a different album in this CCOA forum's photo section. Lyle's install and mine involve the same flush mount 19.7 samsung refrigerator into the same year coach and model except his interior has the refrigerator on the passenger side and mine is on the drivers side. The existing opening width and depth of a Norcold LRIM 1200 is adequate but the height constraints require dropping the floor shelf down a few inches which is the only thing required to make this conversion work as you will see in Lyle's install. Oh and then there is the part about taking out a large window or windshield to move the Samsung in and throw the norcold out.

You don't need to keep an absorption fridge level when moving down the road.

Thanks. That's good to know. Most times when moving from place to place we stop for eats. Often that's along side the road or in a rest stop. Many times these places aren't level and an hour's stop seems to have drawn concern for gas absorption CUs. Tilted CUs can impede the flow of ammonia and cause overheating of certain parts. Never paid any attention to this prior to replacement. I figured being cautious never hurts. Has your experience been different?
