Basement Refrigerator/Freezer

I was thinking of adding a basement refrigerator/freezer. If you have one, what model do you recommend? Do you power it with 12V or 120V power (or both). Any suggestions?

I installed a small 1.3 cu ft 120v Hailer HUM 013 upright freezer in the front P/S storage compartment, nothing fancy but good enough to use an additional freezer without spending a bundle.I installed a wall plug and ran Romex wire to the rear with another wall plug at the shore cord area and I plug it into the power pedistal or can run it under the coach to the outside coach plug if needed.I purchased it from www.compactappliances.com free shipping and no tax paid around $100.00 good luck

Engle makes a dual voltage refrigerator and freezer which is very efficient on 12 Volt. Expensive but sophisticated cooling system. ARB also makes a similar system but has some recent cosmetic and other improvement. All of these systems utilize a high performance high efficiency cooling technology or and are expensive.
I swap mine between car for road trips and motor home when on the road.

I put a 3 cu ft Sunpentown freezer in the closet. Dead quiet, energy efficient. They also make a 1.6 that might fit downstairs. Much less than 3 cu ft is pretty small to hold much.. 120 v. Can run off of inverter.

I got mine at Camping World. It is a Coleman and is the larger model.
It will run on either 12v or 120v and can be set for either a refer or freezer. I had a central vac added and they put an outlet for it on the driver side in the bay next to the plumbing bay. I have the refer in that bay on the passenger side to keep the weight to the rear and plug it in there. I used to keep it in the large compartment just aft of the front wheel as that is where the factory installed outlet is. But I need to watch the front axle weight so I moved it.

A word of caution, regarding freezer/fridge locations. The amount of cooling done by the unit must be dissipated to be surroundings where it is located. If located in a rear closet over the engine compartment, the area will already be very warm, and if there is no air circulating , to remove the dissipated heat, then the unit will not function properly ( or at all ). I had a freezer/fridge in the basement of a 2001 Newmar product and found that when we got to AZ and the warmer climates , it could no longer keep the below zero settings. If it is a compressor version , and you continue to operate under those conditions , you will blow the compressor. It is no different than your house fridge that either has the condenser on the back or underneath with a fan. these deices have to get rid of the cooling it is doing , plus the heat generated by the compressor friction.
