Coach Will Not Start

Yahoo Message Number: 69299
I have a 2007 Allure 470 #31461 and it won't crank. I all started when my Xantrex Prosine 3.0 Showed a system shut down. Put charger on Chassie Batteries for 24 hours at 10 amps, but no crank.

Any Suggestions?

Terry

Checked last night Coach would not start. Put charger on and we will see tonight.

Prosine still shows System Shut down, but now Fault Code is 195

Hope someone has some ideas.

Hi Terry, You posted your problem some days ago and I assumed by now you would have had several suggestions but just in case here a few things you may want to try.

You stated that you charged battery on bench and when reinstalled coach did start. Then when you tried again last night the coach again failed to start.

I am not a diesel mechanic. That said, here are my 2 cents. If you managed to get the coach engine to crank and start after charging on bench I would suspect an intermittent problem. You may have a problem with your Xantrex but that may not be cause of the starting problem.

Intermittent could be caused by a bad or sticking solenoid. This would cut all power going to the starter and no cranking would take place. Have someone turn the ignition key while you listen to the solenoid. If it is working you should hear some noise as it tries to close the starter circuit. If no noise, try tapping the solenoid. That sounds corny but if it is prone to sticking a slight tap should get it to close.

Have you checked the connections? Not just at the battery, but where the power connects to the starter and to the engine?

Another cause for intermittent would be bad wiring at the ignition switch. Juggle the key as you turn it. If there is a loose wire there, it may make contact while you jiggle the key.

Have you been able to start the generator? There really shouldn't be any connection to the engine cranking issue but it would be interesting to know. If the generator does start you will know that there is plenty of fuel in the tank (don't rely on the fuel gage).

My comments may by now be redundant but I didn't want you to be short of suggestions!

Good luck, David '06 Allure 470.
