Hydraulic Fluid Change Question

Time has come to change not just the filter, but also the fluid for the steering, etc. on my 2002 Magna. Has anyone done this? I have some instructions from CC. Herb said to simply disconnect the outlet from the reservoir and the outlet hose from the radiator. It would seem to me that there would still be a lot of fluid in the lines, steering gear, etc. Is there a better way? Any things to watch out for? I recall it uses ATF. What type?

You will never be able to get all the fluid out. The procedures outlined to you will get the most of out and I wouldn't worry about the rest. The fluid is Dexron ATF

I just siphoned the fluid out of the tank and changed the filters. I then did it again after a couple thousand miles, and continue to do it at about 5000-7000 mile increments. The first time I changed it I noted that the fluid looked clean and red, not brown and dirty. This gave me the confidence to continue frequent and partial fluid changes. I was afraid if I started to crack and open lines, I was going to creat leaks and introduce more air than I wanted to. There are three filters in the tank on my coach.

Rich, I agree with Larry. I'm doing the same thing for the same reason. I use a hand pump purchased at Ace Hardware to remove the fluid from the tank. It holds four gallons of Dexron.
