ps.. Nova Kool makes small freezers for boats that will work in RV's. Go to their website and look for distributors. They are much more expensive but have heard good things about their quality. They will work off grid.

If you dry camp you will want to get a unit with a high efficiency compressor ( read expensive) that draws significantly less amperage than your hardware store variety.
ARB and Engle are two brands out there. I paid about $700 for my Engle which I believe is about 26 quarts. It will function as a refrigerator or freezer.

We bought the large "Dometic" chest freezer from Camper's World. It just fits inside the bay on top of our bay-slide. Very convenient to draw out from the bay (using the bay slide) and works on 12v DC or 120v AC. We bought it on sale....works very very well and can be adjusted to be a refrigerator or a freezer.

ARB is a very good unit, we have had one since 2002 and it is still running perfectly. Because our home area gets very warm (hot) during the summer we use the ARB for our Costco trips for meat, etc. Also use the ARB when travelling from Fallon to Coos Bay area in our pickup. We have not used it in the coach, but I am sure it would work well on a slide out tray. Check the ARB site for dealers in your area.
