Engine Overheated

Well here we set in Havasu City AZ Loves tuck stop broken down. Our 05 Allure w/c9 cat is overheating. About 10 minutes west of here on I40 the coolant temp started to move fom 205 up to 230 and shut the engine down. It cooled off and we made it here. The mobile repair guy spent 3 hous last night and thinks it might be thermastats or the radiator is blocked. Any suggestions.

call either Jim Cooley at CC factory or Chris Snyder in Tucson 520 665 1014, and maybe they can tell

you more. Sounds like to me the fan controller could be acting up. If thats the case there is a work

around, but they would be the ones to ask. Chris was a lead tech at the factory and Service Manager at

CC before he retired from CC. He's now offering his services as a mobile Tech to help us all with our

CC's while in AZ.

If you can limp your way into Lake Havasu City there is an excellent repair facility. Its about 15 mi from the Loves truck stop where you are currently. As long as your radiator is full you should be able to make that distance.

Have you tried to disconnect the fan controller to see if it will default to the high fan setting? If the fan controller is bad this will get you to a repair facility preferably CAT because they have the computerized diagnostic equipment. When we were experiencing engine overheating Chris Synder had us turn off the engine and wait before restarting. For some reason this allowed the computer to reset and we could move on down the road until the next time it happened. Ultimately a new fan controller solved the problem permanently.

The CAT representative at the factory also raised the return line from the engine to the overflow reservoir so that the air relief valve in the line was at the high spot and thereby increase the probablility that any air in the line was able to escape. A theory was that the engine was not overheating but was sensing air in the water and shutting down.

On my Inspire 06 with C9 mie was overheating on uphill runs. My permanent fix was a bad thermostat and a hyd fan cooler controller. For me to get to the repair shop I disconected the 3 wire connector on the back side of the radiator and forced my fan to high speed and went all the way to Colton, Ca for repairs. The C9 should have a small thermostat and a large thermostat which means you should have some coolant moving thru the system.
