LPG Quick disconnect for barbecue

I recently noticed a photo of a LPG tank with a separate plumbed connection for ( I presume) a barbecue; however when discussing this with a friend, he mentioned that he heard that it wasn't an "approved" installation on a propane tank. Does anyone have any information on this? I've search several forums and the internet.

I have one on my Inspire. Just remember, it has to be added after the regulator.
Works great, no need to carry propane in small bottles for your grill, etc.

I have no photo. If it ever stops raining, I'll take one and email it to you. I have a 12' hose which seems to work just right. Long enough to get the grill away from the coach.

I put one on my 04 Inspire recently and it is a tee that goes between the tank and the regulator. According to the instructions, grills use unregulated pressure. My Baby Q works great with it.

Lewis, my grill has a regulator on it which is why I had to put mine after the main tank regulator.

We had an ALFA that came with a fitting for the grill. Inside an adjacent bay there was a shut-off valve on the gas line.

I put a quick disconnect on my 2004 intrigue Ovation. Pictures are on the photo section of this forum. I have included links below. When I replaced my Norcold with a residential samsung refrigerator, I put another quick disconnect on the other side of the coach where the gas pipe for the refrigerator went. Both quick disconnects have shut off gas valves before the connection point. Both are located down line from the high pressure regulator as required for gas appliances. I have 12 foot hoses connected to various gas appliances that I use on these disconnects.

I've had 2 different connections for an external BBQ. The first was installed about 10 years ago, purchased from Camping World. The connections were similar to those used on small propane cylinders. They were not quick disconnect. The connection was on the high pressure side of the propane tank and I installed a 2 stage regulator on the BBQ (recommended for tanks larger than 10 gallons). I used a 12' hose to the BBQ.
Several years ago I went to quick disconnect connectors on 1/4" hose, 25' long. I moved the connection to the low pressure side of the coach propane system and removed the regulator from the BBQ. With the new hose connected on the high pressure side, the initial flow rate (to fill the hose) shut the propane off at the tank. Tank has a max flow valve. The connectors will shut off the propane when the hose is disconnected. I also put a manual shutoff valve at the connecting point (just to be safe). I had the hose built at "Hose Power" in Tucson. A number of places can build the hoses.
When I get a chance, I'll take a few pictures and get the part numbers of the connectors used.
I modified a 2 burner Sterling (Char Broil) to carry in the Intrigue. Carry the body above my batteries and the lid in the Motor compartment. Use a folding table from Camping World as the stand>

Here is the actual setup I use for my quick disconnect. I bought it off Amazon but I have also included the name of the manufacture. The quick disconnect "T's" off the low pressure line. Go to local hardware store and get the proper gas valve and adapters to fit the disconnect on to the existing low pressure LP line.
One end of the 12 foot line connects had the quick disconnect connection and the other end takes will screw on to most standard propane appliance.

I agree with Lewis. I have my tee in the same location and works great, I have used it full timing since 2007. Best way to connect the 10' foot hose to tee is to turn off the propane tank valve, then connect hose, then turn tank back on.

There seems to be some agreement/disagreement on where the T is located. Am I right in assuming that if the T is after the regulator, the those folks are not using the barbq regulator and if it is before the regulator, then you are using the barbq regulator???

I think it is exactly opposite. My grill has a regulator and my tee is after the main tank regulator.

I think this is correct. If the T is before the regulator, there must be a regulator on the BBQ (high pressure). Note that tanks have excess flow valves and may shut the propane off if your hose allows "much flow" when connected. After the coach regulator you don't need another one.

The regulator on the main tank reduces the pressure down for most appliances to work properly. Most of the hoses that come with appliances are rated for low pressure so you have to have a regulator on the tank side of the hose. Personally it seems you would want the quick disconnect on the low end of the pressure side of the regulator for safety purposes.
If you read the specs on the quick disconnnect hoses, most of the ones I found were rated for the low pressure side like the 12 foot hoses I use for my external appliances.
I do not understand running flexible high pressure hoses in unprotected areas and having the regulator attached to the appliance. If you were to have a leak, on the high pressure side line, that would certainly provide for some exciting times if it ignites around an open flame. I am sure some of you are running high pressure directly into your appliances without any regulation but I doubt that is approved by any appliance maker.
If you want to run exposed high pressure lines that can be steped on or moved around, I think you run a far greater risk of an accidental leak than having a low pressure line leak. There must be a reason by the coach manuafacture runs black iron pipes for gas lines.

Hey guys, sorry but my senile mind isn't working. If you have a regulator on the grill the tee must be before the regulator on the main tank. If not, you would actually have two regulators in use.
Tough to get old (but tougher no to).

I had to remove the regulator from my grill. The connection on my coach was after the regulator and I was regulating regulated gas. Very small flame in the grill.
