Kitchen Location Advantages - Driver or Pass side

Never having studied "typical" RV camp ground layouts, we're looking at a 2007 CC Intrigue Jubilee. My understanding is that the "view" side is ususally the passenger side, while the driver side is usually a view of the space next to you...

Is that typically true?

One of the models I like has the kitchen on driver side, with bigger/more windows on the passenger side (bed headboard on driver's side too), so you can enjoy the surroundings more...or would you?

If so, why are most kitchens located on the passenger side?

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts! Pro or con!

I have a "Great Room" single slide model. My galley is on the driver (slide out) side. Dining table is on passenger side. I have owned both types. I prefer this configuration as the dining table view is of the active patio and awning side. Of course, whether there is a scenic view or not depends on the particular campsite.
The galley slide out requires more complicated articulating tubing for plumbing and electrical connections and is generally heavier due to kitchen gadgets and food storage. It is generally easier to build a coach with the galley on the passenger (non slide out) side. Slide outs are all very heavy compared to solid sidewalls, so coach load design is pretty tricky especially considering varying levels of fluids in tanks. On coaches that have a dinette slide out, the extension is often deeper due to less weight being cantilevered out from the coach body.
It sounds like you are considering a dual slide model with driver side galley and bedroom slide. FWIW, this would be my choice.

The view if any, will vary from space to space in any campground.
The campground I am in now, alternates, 1coach faces north the next south with utilities in the middle on the drivers side of both coaches.
The views will therefor be different for adjoining spaces. The view may be out the windshield or rear window if any.. I doubt you can design a coach to take advantage of the view at the campground, unless you talking about the area under your patio awning.

Thanks for the insight! The coach we're looking at is actually a quad slide out, and you're correct the kitchen/sofa is one of the slide outs (which actually extends very far out and is level with the coach floor). It's opposite another large slide that includes a couch and dinette booth. The other two slides are the master.
This coach has awnings on both sides - at least I was pretty sure it did.
Daron, are the most/some/all of the sites you camp at have the "view" on the passenger side? Equally importantly, is what's on the driver's side typically something you don't want to look at?
We're brand spankin' new to the RV side...but have camped for years.

Thanks very much for your response. I didn't realize they could orientate them that way ~ especially with a 45' coach! Would you mind sharing what camp ground you are referring to? In your experience, is that a common set up?

Thanks for your very complete and thorough response! While we've kinda been thinking along those lines of thought, your comments certainly resonated with creating a "yardstick" to measure how we intended to use a coach vs. the various coaches we're looking at.

Well we can fix that problem by adding another level on to the coach. I started by putting a ladder on the back and putting some lawn chairs up there and ....
Kidding aside, I agree with Bob. There is no preferred view side. Some coaches have larger floor to ceiling windows that lend them selves to better views but that does not work if you put a couch in front of them. My coach has the large windows on the drivers side slide so I try to orient the coach to the view to that side where my recliners are.
I would also say that once you experience having two slide for the living area you won't want to go back to one or none. One person made a point that the slides to get in the way for when you cannot extend them because of the extra walls projecting into the coach but I can live with that for the infrequent times when I cannot extend them. I wish I had another slide in the bedroom for a total of 4.
We can sleep 4 and can entertain 8. We installed a really nice hideabed semi air mattress for a hideabed couch. Almost as comfortable as our sleep number bed in the bedroom. Our geust love sleeping on it. We usually take vacations with friends so the added space is really nice.

The answer is Yes! No! and Sometimes! Here is another factor that you may not have considered. In some campsites the best view may be through the windshield! We just enjoyed two weeks at a campsite on the American River in the California Gold Rush country near Sutter's Mill. At this site we enjoyed a river view within about 50 ft. of the rafters and kayakers shooting rapids at a river bend right in front of our windshield. It was like having box seats at a river rodeo every day including all the hoops, yahoos and hooahs.
Camping is like a box of chocolates.........

Just relax and enjoy it!

Mark, in our 9 years of motorhoming, I would guess that 90% of the best views were out the front or passenger side of the rig. I would be hard pressed to name one location where the view was out of the driver side.

This whether we were parked side by side, nose in, or backed in.
We selected a rig with the windows and dinette on the passenger side and are glad we did.
