Strange electrical

Was in the Foley, Alabama area last friday, was hot and very hunid. Was ready to leave by 7:15, turned the key on and the dash and shift lights started blinking. Tuened the key to start and the solenoid started clicking in unison with the lights. Turned key off and the lights continued to blink. Turned the chassie disconnect switch off and back on. Lights went out so tried again with same results. Checked the chassie battery and had 12.7 volts. Changed the solenoid under the dash, turned the key - nothing. Hit the battery connect switch and it started, pushed drive and it started flashing 6 and would not go into gear. Reaved the engine to 2000 for 15 seconds, let off the go petal, pushed drive again and it went into gear. Drove 275 miles and during that time all of the gages including speedometer and tach went to 0 two times but the coach ran fine all the time. The power outage only lasted about 10 seconds. Turned the key on this morning and all is back to normal. The coach is 12 1/2 years old with 161,000+ miles and I am in my 77 year so guess we are both getting croachy in our old age.

Dirty Battery Terminals and or Loose connection's and or bad grounds! Supprised you were able to drive the Coach! Keep us posted on repairs! Ken 99 Allure 30356.

Loss of electrical continuity in electrical circuits is a major problem in our older coaches...
This of course is a result of the manufacturer's use of slip on connections, plugs, sockets, etc. in order to speed up production...
The first "suspect" is loss of ground... the fix is to "brighten" all ground connections and make sure they are tight...
Next suspect is loss of continuity in the "slip-on" connections (like the connectors that slip on the terminals on the back of the dash gauges)... fix is to unplug/replug several times to "brighten" the terminals...
Next thing to check is the two large plug/socket connectors in the bay under the driver's window... these connectors connect the chassis and transmission wiring to the dash gauges and controls such as your Allison transmission shifter panel, cruise controls, etc.... the permanent fix for this is to remove the plugs/sockets and SOLDER the wire connections, using heat-shrink tubing for insulation on the soldered joints... If older coach owners will take the time to do this, they will eliminate many future control/gauge problems...

Sounds like a battery issue, battery cable connectors might need cleaning, battery might have a cell going on you and while it measures 12.75 with no load, that doesn't mean it holds up when you try to put that big starting draw on it. Clean the terminals check to see that all are tight and check battery voltage under starting load.
