Revisiting the Pioneer N2 problem

I talked to Kevin about the Pioneer nav system and was successful in ejecting the disc, cleaning it and reloading the disc. All went well the unit started the screen extended, backup camera worked etc. I closed the screen and walked away. That evening I tried to turn the unit on by extending the screen, nothing. When I pressed the screen extend button It didn't chime as normal. the unit acts as as if there is no power, however, I pulled the pedestal panel forward and checked the 10 Amp fuse with a volt meter all was OK.
The unit is completely unresponsive and I'm at a loss. I can't raise the screen so no backup camera.
Who out there has replaced the unit with something else. I don't use the nav function but I sure would like to have a camera. The unit installed on my 07 Magna is a Pioneer AVIC-N2. The unit is about 7in wide 6 and a half in deep and 2 in high. I would like to find something that fits into that space or repair what I have. Can I disable the nav function of the N2 and use it only as a backup camera if I get it working again.
All ideas are welcomed.

Our coach is at OMC right now, but when the original Pioneer quit working (ejecting, reading disc), we had it replaced with another Pioneer without GPS. The new unit actually turns off with the on/off button and is more user friendly. Bob Vinson at OMC did the work.

That model Pioneer has been known to brake the flex cable as the screen moves Pioneer has a service center in Ohio and they always replace the cable when the unit is sent in for service. That has been my experience My unit works well. Bob 06 intrigue 12047

OMC is Oregon Motorcoach Center in Junction City. I don't recall the model of the replacement unit, but it similar in size and operation to the original. The main difference, on our coach anyway, is no GPS and the unit is not wired for constant on. Bob Vinson said our problem was that the reading unit for the disc had burned out.

The N2 Pioneer unit was designed for vehicle use with the power coming from the ignition source. in a MH the power is on continuously resulting in the disk running all the time Pioneer recommends adding an on/off sw to save the disk drive Bob 06 intrigue 12047

I have the same Pioneer unit in our coach and have had the same problems. After fiddeling with it for some time I found where the power module was installed for the Pioneer unit and unpluged the power from it and after a minute repluged the power back in and everything worked again like it should. These things are like computors and need to be rebooted now and then. I also installed a seperate 7" screen for my backup camera so I can see what is behind me at all times, which is a big help in knowing when you have passed someone and can pull back into the right lane. I also added a power shutoff switch for the GPS and the back-up screen.
The first time I had that problem, there was a recall on this unit to replace the power cord for the screen so it would deploy out and turn up, so I sent it back to the Pioneer repair center in LA, Calif. and they fixed it and returned it to me. It worked for a couple of years and then I found that I could reboot it by unpluging the power module for a short time. I have done this a couple of times and it works.
