Dip Stick Tube for 2004 Allure with 400 hp Cummins (#31070)

The purpose of this post is to inform the CC community of a supply problem with subject part.
After my coach was returned from Cummins Rocky Mountain for an oil change, it started leaking oil rather badly. We noticed it on our 800 mile trip to California. By the time we had returned as far as Kingman, we had lost 4 quarts, so replaced them and made it back to Albuquerque.
We took it to Cummins RM immediately, and they have now informed me the dip stick tube needs to be replaced. I called CC Parts. They said this part is no longer available, that the sub-contractor says it would take 8 weeks and $400-500 to obtain the part. They understandably are not anxious to do that.
As recommended by CC Parts, I have asked Cummins RM to remove the part and find someone around town to repair it. Hopefully, it will just be a weld job, but who knows what will happen at this point. I'll shall keep this forum informed.

I have a 2004 Allure with a Cummins 400 hp, and at 31093 not that younger than yours.
My dipstick tube got a hole rubbed in it a few years back. CC was still in business and I was able to order a replacement and it came with the dipstick. The dipstick tube is plastic, so I would think you ought to be able to find the same size tube somewhere. I'm not sure if it is one piece at the top end. If it is, maybe you could salvage the upper end and put the two together with some rubber tubing. The bottom end secures to a metal piece in the block with a worm clamp.

My dip stick housing failed and I too could not find a replacement from CC, etc. The original dip stick housing was made from composite plastic-like material. Part of it was located too close to the exhaust manifold where it melted. I ended up replacing most of it with a piece of brass tubing.

I have an ISL 400 and the dip stick tube has a Cummins part number on it. 3968446. The last number could be a Zero but I beleive it's a 6.
