roof stains.

Anyone out there have a problem with the interior carpet on the roof that is staining from the steal structure tubes. On the edges and the cross members. It is the worst in the back bedroom. Any thoughts or ideas to clean without staining worse. No sign of any water leakage, just has a black stain that looks like you sometime see at a home with the sheetrock and nail heads showing from a candle smoke or something. Thanks for your time.

Jeff........This has been a topic of discussion on the forum in the past. There seemed to be a general consensus that, apparently, it comes from an accumulation of oily residue that comes from the crankcase ventilation device as it exhausts to the atmosphere. Because of the negative pressure created in the engine compartment during travel and the fact that the rear ceiling area was not sealed off properly, those vapors are pulled into the cavity between the ceiling and the roof of the bus where the residue accumulates on the metal cross members and eventually soaks downward thru the ceiling panels. My coach show the same signs. As far as I know, there is no cost effective way to address the cause of the problem.

Jeff, had same with '96 Intrigue in first few yrs. CC then sprayed a sealer of some sorts at top of rear cap above engine which stopped problem. Took a few ceiling cleanings by Rob the carpet cleaner in Eugene Or. and now looks quite good. Jim Veen, '96 Intrigue, 10299, 135,000 mi.

Could you provide more detail about how the spraying was done and what was used? How did they acess the area sprayed? I have the same problem with roof stains and I'm trying to figure out a way to insulate over the engine compartment to prevent the soot from entering the coach.

I have the same staining problem on my 96 Intrigue and have been thinking, if there would have been a vent installed in the rear engine door, the pressure could escape and keep the compartment cooler also.

The stains you see are from the exhaust/ Knox from the engine it gets up there from the back cap then lays on the roof, so Everytime you drive it gets worst. Camping World sells a ceiling cleaner or for that fact any RV parts store would have.
