Faulty jack retraction

My Power Gear jacks retract when ignition is turned on without turning leveling system on. Slides can be either in or out. Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

If you find out how to cure this problem please let me know. Mine does this now and then. It seems if the coach is not totally level it is more likely to do it. I now use the auto leveling and then with a level on the kitchen floor I use the manual part of the Power Gear to make it is as level as possible. This seems to help.
My auto settings seem to not be close to level some times. I have had occasions where the front D/S jack was not touching the ground when the auto system claimed it was level

Greetings!

I had the identical problem a couple of years ago. It was solved by cleaning the ground connection located on the firewall directly in front of the driver (accessed inside the generator compartment). I do not recall the wire number, but that was the problem.

Jay is correct! When the Power Gear jack system retracts unexpectedly the the problem is almost always a loss of ground signal. When the coach park brake is set it directs air pressure to the park brake switch which is located in the generator compartment. You will find several electrical components, three on top row and three on the bottom row, just to the upper right side of the generator housing. The park brake switch is located on the bottom row in the center. Check your user manual for a picture of the set up in your coach. This switch is pressure actuated and closes a contact that completes the ground circuit for the Power Gear leveling system. When that switch fails to keep a good ground connection the leveling system will retract and sometimes without warning. That is a safety feature of the power gear system, it thinks the park brake (located just to the left of the driver seat) has been released and the coach is ready to move. A good test is to install a ground wire on the top connector of the park brake pressure switch in the generator bay. Run the wire up through the coach floor to the dash and connect it to an "off" "on" switch and then run the wire back down to the generator bay to a clean frame ground. When the switch is in the "on" position you have effectively by passed the park brake pressure switch. Now operate the leveling system over a period of several days and observe if it has corrected the problem. If so, replace the park brake switch. I have replaced mine on two occasions. I got mine from Specialty Logistics 541-515-6651. I have left my temporary ground switch attached (mounted on the dash) just in case of an emergency. However, I want to warn you that if the temporary switch if left in the "on" position it is possible to operate the Power Gear leveling system and the Power Gear slides under any conditions. This is not a good idea while traveling down the road.

Thank you Jay and Jon for your help. I followed your suggestions- cleaned the ground, tested the switch, and had to replace the park brake switch to solve the problem. Thank you again for your help.
