First yearly service questions

Yahoo Message Number: 74152
When we purchased our 04 Allure with ISL370, we had full LOF, also as part of our PDI we had Cummins Coach Care dyno test, inspect, and pull oil samples for us. They also replaced the water filter. All reports came back very good.
I'm running up from San Diego to Colton Truck on Tuesday, to have yearly service, as well as a full three axle alignment.

I have a few questions, TIA for input!

Cooling System:

Quote
Can see no records of the cooling system ever being changed, just the filter swapped out.
I've read about Extended Life (or something like that), where you never need to change the fluid again.
Does anyone know if the 04 vintage ISL came with this from CC at delivery? (I admit I've not yet dug too much into the world of DP Cooling, and just don't know.) > If they have not. Any negative to changing this over with this service. Figure do it once, then go into normal filter maintenance mode.

This unit was supposed to have the Transyn at delivery. It is now coming up on 8 years old, but only has 18K on the rig.
Should I swap this out now, or just pull the analysis and test?

Differential

I was planning on having this serviced too. Just use what Colton has available? Or, are synthetics a good idea for this too?

Misc

Quote
Still has the as delivered air cartridge, so planning on having that replaced with this service.
> I bought several left over filters from old board member Robert Kumza - a very nice man, who shared experience and knowledge. In the large box of stuff, is a S2502 Racor Fuel Filter. Does anyone know if this is for the generator? Or is it an inline filter in front of the FS1015/FS1022? (I'm thinking it is to the generator, which had a full service when we had to drop it from the rig.)
> Sort of a repeat, but I will have samples pulled and sent in for oil and trans analysis. Do they do this for coolant too?
Any other recommendations to have looked over would be appreciated. Colton Truck has a good reputation, so suspect their normal yearly service inspection and LOF will cover the basics. I'll ask them to show me things as they go along, as I'm still learning what some of these things are, and where they go...

Again, TIA - and welcome any input.

Smitty,

I changed over to FINAL CHARGE GLOBAL EXTENDED LIFE Coolant, its good for 300,000 miles before any "extender" needs to be added, no testing at all, you therefore use a Zero Chemical Water Filter, not sure if you have a Cat or Cummins engine.
This coolant is manufactured by Old World Industries, in the Chicago area, they also manufacture PEAK which you've probably heard of, company has been in business go to www.oldworldind.com
The product is available through O'Reily Auto Parts stores, they can bring it in from their distribution center to the store near you. Un-opened gallon jugs are returnable. I buy the 50/50 premix. About $11.00 per gal.
ALLISON: Being Transynd you should be OK, but I'd for sure change the Filters and top off the fluid.
DIFFERENTIAL: I use MOBIL ONE synthetic and have for 13 years. But it doesn't have to be MOBIL.
RACOR- S-2502 is the diesel fuel filter (small cone paper filter) for my Hurricane Unit, if you do not have a Hurricane Water Heater/Coach Heater, I'm not sure where it would be installed.

Smitty, my 04 Intrigue with ISL 400 did not come with Transynd in it. I was told if Transynd was in it there would be a tag on the dip stick. I have since changed to Transynd.

If like my Intrigue in 04 (ISL 400) with the same engine the coolant should be blue in color. Thats Cummins ES complete. There new stuff that can be extended for ever is ES complete OAT (organic acid treatment) and its red in color. I ran the blue stuff for 7 !/2 years with new charge filter each year until my rear circulation pump failed when the unit was 6 years old. I Had had the coolant analyzed every year after 4 years of age. Then this spring when the fan controller and the radiator failed they switched me over to the Red stuff. If your unit was built in late 03 you will have Dexron in your transmission and it should be changed immediately. If you have transynd, built after 01/01/04 there should be labels on the filler tube and posted in the engine compartment, then that should be tested before a trip. I wouldn't just replace it because soon enough the radiator for the engine and tranny will fail causing you to replace, both engine coolant and transmission fluid.

Very pleased with the effort and support of Colton Trucks, can see why they have such good reviews. This was a thinned out crew, as the West Side of the shops Foreman was on Vacation, so Jim the Supervisor, did double duty. (He also did hands on work to help another nice couple from Oceanside, fixing the air leveling of their 96 vintage 32 CC coach. Nice to see a 'hands on' supervisor.)
"The Ed", did check me in. Took his time to walk me thru explaining items that would be worked on, and recommending not to do some of the items on my list. After the check in, our paths did not cross again. He was out of the shop quite a bit. Did not seem to impact my process at all.
Travis, one of the newer members of the Colton Gang, was assigned as my primary tech. Louie came over to help on a few items, as the double teamed so that I could get everything done in one day.
Now, this was a hot day - and not much fun for the guys doing the work!
I've posted to RV Service review, but wanted to share the results of this mostly normal yearly maintenance, as it is always good to know good shops:)!

OK, what was done:
-LOF

-Alignment

(Reset the rear ride height, which was about 4" too low.) -Flushed the Transynd (FYI - Coach had this, but no stickers) -Flushed and new filter for hydraulics -Tested coolant/new filter (following advice here, and from Colton, did not change over to Oak at this time) -Brakes adjusted

-Hubs fluid changed (may have not said that right, but the wheel hubs) -Air Cartridge replaced(*)
-Oil sample taken

-Re-confirmed that this unit does not have a PTO

What was not done:

-Ran out of time, and I did not want to stay over night due to work schedule. Front left brake is squealing some, and still does.
-I'm hoping that the brake adjustment/lube, will help on eliminate the 'high heat warnings' I've now had two times. Once the inside left, once (yesterday, driving to Colton) the outside right. Indications of 180 temps, from the OEM Smart Tire II, PSI all seem good. So thinking the brake shoe may have been dragging some, and that service will have helped this.
-(*) On the Air cartridge, they could not get the AD-IP Purge or Check Valves. So only the cartridge was replaced.
(I'll post two separate thread on follow up questions, related to squealing brakes and air cartridge purge/check valves.)
A very hot day, and these guys worked very hard to get all of this completed by end of the day. Jim came by a few times to check in with Travis on how things were going.
Very pleased with Colton Truck, and this almost finishes our final 'baseline' of knowing the status of our now 18 month old to us new/used CC. Anything I could not verify from the receipts we had, was taken care of during this service.
Note: On the drive home, our already good handling rig, was just that much more comfortable and stable from the resetting of the rear ride height. I should have checked this much earlier:)!

Best to all,
Smitty
