Charge Air Cooler Failure/Replacement

How many of you have had your CAC crack/leak? I have learned that at least in the early 2000's if not later, CC used JB, the maker of the garbage aluminum radiators to make garbage CAC's that always fail. I luckily have a copper rad at least, but the aluminum jb cac.
Seems the place to go in SoCal is Colton. Is there anyone in AZ who does a lot of these as does Colton?
By the way, do not rely on your silverleaf to indicate even a badly leaking cac. It can be fooled on torque, boost and hp.

Rich, I have a 03 Allure 1st Ave. with 112,000 miles ISL 370. Here's my CAC replacement story. I verified the CAC leak by having the Charge Air System Pressurized, the leak was audibly obvious immediately.
Had the CAC, RADIATOR/OIl Cooler removed. My Radiator was a JB but was Copper/Brass so I sent it to a Radiator shop that has been in business for years to be cleaned rodded out and tested. Came back perfect, did this so I would go down the road only to find a bad radiator near term.
I had the shop order (from the exact JB Part Number on CAC a new CAC, itwould again be aluminum as I found most are. I ordered from JB as I wanted to sure of exact fit.
CAC came in and it wasn't even close in dimension to the mine, authorized dealer finally agreed he'd screwed up in placing order with JB. I couldn't wait another month and was talked into using the Radiator shop I used to clean mine, to Repair my CAC. I verified that they do this everyday and plus they manufacture custom new CAC from Aluminum so they new how to weld on Aluminum.
They fixed it in 1 day and the 2nd day put it on a 3 hour pressure test.

The fix was 1/4 the price of the new JB.

All is back in and so far running well.
Note: your Silverleaf uses Calculated figures for H.P. and Torque, but Boost is direct from ECM

I'm pretty impressed with Massey Truck in Phoenix for radiator history. Can't say for CAC, but I would guess that with over 100 radiator replacements that there have been more than one CAC as well.

Ask for Tom, the RV service manager.
